Brady is a great QB. I won't argue that. But he's not God. And I disagree that Brady has made Belichick. Matt Cassel went 10-5 with the Pats after not having started a game since high school. And Cassel's first-year QBR (in 08) was higher than Brady's first-year QBR (in 01). That's BB. You will never convince me that Brady is not the huge benefactor of the best o-line play and overall execution since the days of, well, Walsh and Montana. Watch the Pats play and see how often Brady's #1 or #2 option is simply WIDE OPEN. I'd say that at least 75% of Brady's passes are pitch and catch. He rarely has pressure and rarely has to progress through many reads. The offense almost always works the way it's drawn up to work because of the execution of all 11 men. It's like a well-oiled machine. Almost any QB could step in and play for the Pats and play well. Cassel proved that.

Cassel would have to do it more then one year to prove anything to me. And he went 10-5 and no where else, Brady won SB's. Cassel had a great team around him, helped a lot also.

How good was BB in Cleveland with Kosar? Who wasn't a bad QB by the way. What did he do his first year in NE with Bledsoe? 5-11. What did he do in Bradys first year? Win a SB. Brady made Belichick.

You have no proof that Brady can do anything without BB behind him, so we'll never know. What we do know is that even Matt Cassel succeeded under BB. The Cleveland history means nothing. Belichick didn't get his mojo going until midway through that 2001 season. Then it all clicked.

Well I have proof that Belichick can't do anything without Brady.

And that mojo? Yeah it's name is Brady.

He's funny to me. He's the ultimate band rider. He will support whomever is hot at the time and will find or fabricate stats to prove his point. He does it to All the qbs and players alike. For heavens sake....he had romanoski (drug user and spat in another players face) and Trent (just manage the game ) Dilfer ss great minds in the sport and went on as to how he value their opinions?.Really?!....what a joke!

The Patriots run through the 2001 playoffs:

    3 returns for TDs
    2 game-winning FGs by Vinatieri
    1 Brady TD pass

So tell us how it was all Brady that did that. Brady actually had little hand in their first Super Bowl title. He completed a couple of screen passes in a final drive that his RBs took off with that set up an indoor field goal. But somehow: he was the hero.

Again, I am not arguing Brady's greatness. He's a top 10 QB of all time. But he is not the best. To earn that, imho, he needs to make a play that lives on in the pantheon of the NFL. He hasn't and he has failed in every opportunity to do so. There's a line from the film Jerry Maguire, where Maguire is told, "That's how you become great, man. By hanging your ballz out there." (It's Jerry Cantrell from Soundgarden who says this, btw). Well, Brady has never done that: he has never been able to make a play that was daring, exceptional, against the odds, to win the game. Ever. And to be great, you have to do that. You have to have so much faith in your ability that you attempt the pass that will either make you the hero or the goat. And he hasn't done this...or, at least, hasn't been able to make that play, that big play that solidifies his greatness.

The big ones (TDs only) off the top of my head: Bradshaw to Swann TD in SBX, and nobody will convince me that this isn't the greatest throw in NFL history. Montana to Clark. Montana to Taylor to win SB XXIII. Elway to Johnson to cap "The Drive." Ben to Holmes. Bradshaw to Stallworth in SB XIV. Staubach to Pearson. Stabler to Davis (Sea of Hands).

Once Brady has a pass that joins these, I'll anoint him.

I never said he's the best, I just said he is among the best. I'd take several QB's over him with the game on the line and needing a TD to win.

Ugh Colin. I am listening to him now only because he falls in between Mike and Mike and SVP. To be fair, he likes Ben and doesn't hide it. However, I just cant stand him. He is like listening to nails on a chalkboard. I have no idea why people continue to call in to his show. He is so rude to his callers and a total Brady homer.

Sorry, didn't mean to imply you did. But the general consensus is that he may be.

But we took the long way around to ultimately agree. LOL

FWIW, my top three that I saw at QB:

    1. Elway
    2. Montana
    3. Marino

The rest of my top ten I really can't put in any order, but they are as follows in alpha order:
    Bradshaw
    Brady
    Favre
    Manning
    Moon
    Staubach
    Tarkenton

    Just outside the top ten:
    Aikman
    Fouts
    Kelly
    Rodgers
    Young

CC def gives Ben his props. I've listened to him for a long time, and he includes Ben in his QB lists often, so maybe he just left him out that day, but as a whole he likes the Steelers. You have to understand how he works, and he pushes hot topics bc that's what he does. It's a radio show and it's all about the ratings. As for the Brady talk, you have to take off the homer glasses sometimes and give people some props. ALL QB s play in a system. That's what the OC is for. Teams run plays that their players can execute. To say Brady is an average QB in the right system is wrong. The guy wins games and makes plays because somebody has to throw the ball where it needs to be right? If Brady was a Steelers QB he would be the greatest player ever, and many of you would have a kid or dog named Brady. It's the same argument people used to have about Ray Lewis being a great LB. Anybody who disagrees doesn't know football, or just can't get off the Steelers wagon to give credit where it's due. I can't stand Bill B either, but he too is one of the best around.
