You know he is going to go for over 100 yard this weekend against Green Bay right. (Running + Receiving + Returning)

Don't you care if those come at the expense of better players? It seems to me that such plays would take snaps/touches away from Warren or Harris. Sorry, but I haven't seen anything from McFarland to suggest he should ever be on the field over Harris or warren.

When has he shown good hands? Practice? That means nothing.

The Steelers already have an even faster player out there, Austin. Unlike McFarland, Austin has proven he can score a long touchdown in a regular-season NFL game.

It's not as if any defense will stop double-teaming George Pickens to account for Anthony McFarland.

This comes back to taking snaps and touches away from Harris or Warren for an inferior player, which is just asinine.

Let's hope not. That would probably mean the Packers were kicking off a lot.

I think it is a pretty low bar, unless Green Bay has a kicker that puts it through the End Zone every time.

With our Defense, I like it when Bos goes for the Touchbacks myself.

Kidding aside I don’t subscribe to that argument. Someone is always taking snaps away from better players. Team sport, the idea is to exposes matchups. If McFarland scores a TD do you care that it came at Warrens expense?

You don't take snaps from them. Its called the Scat game. The snaps come from our elite TE'S .Our Offense has been so dominate so how dare the OC rock the boat..Come on Man ..As far as hands go camp and preseason and his his only game this season. You can keep hating I will keep hoping he can stay healthy. I really don't care what his stats are if other plays become better and they will. So you are the DC you keep double team on GP who guards the speed in the flats end arounds and screens?A LB ?Damn I Hope so..

That is applying potential hindsight. This is about projecting what is most likely to happen. On any given play, both Harris and Warren are far more likely to produce a positive result. They are already splitting time. Working McFarland in gives both of them even fewer opportunities. Given how well they are playing, especially Warren, that makes no sense.

I'm not hating. Unlike you, I realize that he hasn't earned opportunities at the expense of better players. He hasn't demonstrated the ability to do the things you insist he will do.

Austin is faster and more capable as a receiver.

If you want to focus on screens and end arounds, McFarland has never made a big play in the NFL on either. Warren has done it multiple times.

I was thinking the same thing. He might get 10 yards from the line of scrimmage. If he has over 100 on kick returns then that means the Packers will be scoring a lot.

Lot of hopium on DKs part. Fools gold.

Talking about pages of the playbook were out because no Mac. Now, it's all back! Pffft

On the flip side, I could see Canada actually wasting time developing "pages" for him. They have players that can produce on the field but aren't doing it. So I'm to believe Mac is the missing piece? Gosh help us fans

One of the missing pieces moved into the starting lineup last week when Jones replaced Okorafor at right tackle. I know Jones started a game for Moore, too, but their strongest combination is Moore and Jones. It showed last week with an improved running game and better pass protection. Maybe that opens up more opportunities for all of the backs.

As I've stated earlier in the thread and Scribe has pointed out several times in the last two days any package that is installed to get McFarland into the game is beyond dumb. This offense is struggling with it basic packages, you don't waste valuable practice time installing gadget plays for a single player. If the OC needs to shake things up, let Kenny audible when he sees a 5-8 cushion on the outside with the CB rocking back on his heels. Give Washington a career highlight tape of Kelce chipping in a block then releasing into the soft spot in the zone and waiting on a pass. Coach up Heyward so he doesn't miss blocks, isn't behind in his routes and catches the ball. Have the whole Oline spend valuable time breaking down film on where they are blowing it in zone blocking. That's just a few areas where they could change it up over wasting time getting Anthony McFarland involved in the game.

The dude is fragile. He is not a difference maker just a roster spot taker...

Dumbada needs to focus on getting our playmaker Pickens more involved not worrying about some has been getting snaps.

I’ll just throw in a reminder that running backs in the NFL often have to pick up blitzes and keep their QB from getting pounded. Has he ever shown that ability? I’ve never seen it.

He hasn't put much of anything on tape.

I'm hoping that Ant has about 5 kickoff returns on Sunday. That's the only thing I care about.

    Kickoffs mean touchdowns baby!

It’s not applying hindsight, it’s exposing mismatches and also the same logic people use for why Warren performs well, because defenses are keying on Harris. They won’t be game planning for McFarland either.

It's probably 75% to 80% against that McFarland will have an explosive impact on the game. However if we follow the logic of your post just as with Warren there are mismatches all over the field and that haven't taken advantage of those so again why waste valuable time installing packages for a fringe player. I'd probably be on the otherside of the argument if this was a high scoring well oiled machine but they aren't so don't waste time on this stuff.

All I got to say about it is.....we shall see. If it works out positive.....awesome, but I will not hold My breath for it. I've heard the same stuff since He was drafted.

I understand and I have been high on him and he has yet to have a real impact except as a KR.A 30 yard average for a guy who has really never done it shows positive for his growth IMO. I just have a feeling he will have a good game this week as you stated we will see..

@PWP@PWP I sorta given up hoping based on player hype. I mentioned this to Mac a few months back about the guys he hypes and I'm not saying he's wrong just the guys never seem to be what the hype is. Shamarko Thomas the land shark. Had some splash plays but couldn't stay healthy . McFarland is the same thing. He has splash plays but just can't stay on the field.

He has shown that he can't do it. He has struggled with it in previous seasons and he continued to stink at it in the preseason this year.

The argument STD makes for Warren is that he gets running plays that come off a fake to Harris, but they don't do it the other way around. By that logic, every team should use their third-string running back more because opponents won't game-plan for the guy.

The argument I referred to as hindsight was about how I would feel if McFarland scored a touchdown. It assumes a positive result for McFarland. Based on everything we've seen from the Steelers running backs, we are far more likely to see positive results from plays that get the ball to Harris or Warren than those that utilize McFarland.

Harris is the starter. He is still getting most of the reps. Warren keeps playing better and better. He needs to get the ball in his hands as much as possible. If they are already working just to get each of them the ball often enough, it makes little sense to give a fringe third-string guy the ball in place of Warren.
