It's not like it is unheard of for players to work at both positions. Chad Brown went back and forth. More recently, Arthur Moats was a backup at both positions.

Until I see better play calling, better offensive execution. I am hoping the new more talented
players added this off season can over come this? Our offense needs to seriously improve their point production.
That magical 30 Pts/ game needs to become a reality.

been saying the same thing weidl just said all along. you had to see this coming if you watched what they have been bringing in here. run heavy, play action, we can play it any way you want offense and a solid defense that keeps the other teams offense on the bench. you load the box and we will make you pay.

The player personnel moves in both free agency and the draft have been phenomenal. But the retention of Matt Canada in particular is still a head scratcher. At least we hired Glenn Thomas who will hopefully help with the offensive scheme and play calling.

why wouldn't they? we have the QB, the receivers, the line the RB's and the TE's to make it happen. :smiley1::cool:

I think Snell should be brought back. He’s not flashy and fast, but if you need three yards on third and three at a crucial point in a close game he’ll get you four. He’s a tough inside runner.

7-2 down the stretch with much less than he has now. we had the longest drives in the league last year, again with much less than we have now. youngest offense in the league last year as well. he gets all the blame for the bad but none of the praise for the good.

Weidl played a huge part in this draft. Grateful he is working for the Black&Gold!

Hope he stays a few more seasons. He will be in line for a General Manager position elsewhere someday.

They are telling the league out of the gate what they are going to do. Prepare to get pounded into submission. Then Kenny hits a long one to Pickens right out of the gate, TD! A balanced attack that will keep opposing defensive coordinators to lose sleep.

The only negative is, Canada. Hopefully Glenn Thomas takes away some of the Saturday play callers duties. This offense can be unstoppable but hopefully Canada doesn't F it up.

Weidl’s fingerprints are all over both the draft class and the free agent signings as well. Whether your gameplan is to run the ball or pass the ball on offense, it starts and ends with the blocking and protection up front. Same on defense. To stop both the run and the pass, you’ve got to control the LOS. Pretty simple really. I’m very happy that we’ve gone heavy (pun intended) on the offensive and defensive lines this off season. My hope was that we’d address the trenches and bring some beef in. That has come to fruition and I like it!

I have been saying this for the last few years. As defenses go smaller ... we go bigger. What are the advantages to smash mouth ball control offensive football?

    1. Great system to develop a young Franchise QB under.
    2. Compliments Dominant Defensive Play.
    3. Great for cold weather, late season and playoff football.
    4. Reduces turnovers.
    5. Imposes will on other teams and really takes the fight out of them.

I used to love the half truth they used to always say that a quick pass or bubble screen is essentially an extension of the run game. Everyone knew it was a cover up for inefficient offensive line play both in pass blocking and run blocking.

There’s something to be said for telegraphing to teams what your going to do and you do it anyways. It really does take the will out of the other team.

I hear that, but if a player doesn’t produce like Mincah out there doing that roaming stuff, wouldn’t he just seem like a guy out there lost in space and the fans would eat him alive?

    Exactly

Three things can happen on a pass play and two of them are bad

Great news. "Duck" tape is so different than back in the day.
The weight room will have a plethora of colors and like "band aid" back in the day " it sticks where it's supposed to, but it doesn't stick where it's not supposed to"

Bill Cowher said the opposite. He said three things can happen on a pass play, and only one bad. Strangely He still chose to run it mostly. LoL

    You quote Bill Cowher

    I was quoting Chuck Noll

And I can think of one good a reception thing and two bad an incompletion and an interception

I’m with the guy who won 4

While I do HATE the dink and dunk, I am a fan of 35-40 passes a game. I love my Steelers but would prefer not to go back to Cowher ball.
