Like all other companies in corporate America, it's who you know (and kiss ass) that lands you the job, and keeps it for you.

Seriously? You thought a 3 year old article that says Canada was a former Pitt asst. was worthy of a new Top Post? The title denotes some hidden conspiracy theory, instead we get the line, its someone Mike knows. It going to be a long off season.

Seems to be a cheap hire to me. Rather than going out and doing a deep search for a top notch candidate they basically go just across the street to pick up someone looking to advance to the NFL. Hopefully he can create more success come next year. The first half of the season was brutal and they can't afford those early loses in 2023, especially in this division.

Wish they'd Hire Me. I wouldn't do as good, but I'd do it for half the salary.

I don't know. Matt Canada set the bar pretty low early in the season. Don't sell yourself so short.

As many games as were lost early on, I think a bag with pieces of paper that have plays on them would have been as good of a strategy for play calling.

    From the article…

Rooney said “Mike is comfortable knowing Matt from down the hall."

Why is it that the Steelers only seem to want to hire people from down the hall or who have some kind of close connection? How many quality people have we passed on because they weren’t from “down the hall” figuratively speaking? It just seems to me that Rooney makes hiring decisions based on a) family connections, b) former players, c) proximity, d) virtue signaling.

I just can't get excited about an OC that nearly tears up the booth in excitement when one of his plays work and we score (Claypool left handed pass).

But the idiots on twitter said Canada only got hired because he recruited Tomlin's son to Maryland .

An unpublished Rooney rule: for season to season consistency, try to never to hire an OC or DC that someone might actually want to hire directly from the Steelers as a HC.

Man.... they should hire me. I'll crush it and I'll do it for a cool $150K.

I think a lot of it is they are looking for people that understand the Steelers culture and who aren't confrontational with that. Hiring someone from Shanahan's offensive staff who was an ardent supporter of the west coast offense would be a waste of time. It's one of the reasons I have zero hope of casting Jerry O aside and getting some new blood at inside linebacker because his coaching is average at best.

Not to "if and buts" but this topic could swing the other way just as easily. If this offense had come out and played somewhere near what Mahomes does in KC it would look like an inspired hire.....

Nope wait I can't do this, yep due diligence was not explored on Canada's hire.

Just thought it was interesting and I really have never seen it as a thread here. I really was checking out on the web when Noll didn't want to fire some of his staff but was told by Dan Rooney to do so. Then I also found this story. Nothing more, nothing less.
