We were talking in the combine general thread about Allen Robinson's YAC numbers on screens compared to other receivers. I thought it would be smart to start a new thread on it, mainly because of the gifs. I know some machines get bogged down with them. Anyway...these gifs, while only a limited sampling, should help to explain his YAC numbers compared to the other receivers.

Robinson appears to have the "IT" factor.

He had 12 catches for 173 yards against Ohio State and in one article he said the toughest db he has faced was Roby, Im intrigued.

Great blocking and poor tackling can do wonders for a player's stats.

True...but, that's over simplifying it a bit in his case. It helps when you have a great double move that can trick defenders, and be shifty enough to make guys miss. For a guy that's 6'2 and a half at 220 lbs, that's a good skill set to have.

I agree. I really see no need to go WR in the first with guys like this to be had in the second.

I was all over pimping Mike Evans, but I have moved into the the Justin Gilbert camp. This is mostly due to need, we need CB, but also due to depth of available WRs in the 2nd. In addition, I still want to draft a 2nd CB in the 4th or 5th.

Robinson didn't help himself at the combine though he had one of the slowest forty times among WR's he ran a 4.6

true, theres some great blocking, but look at the one gif where it failed and Robinson shows great vision to find an open lane.

Man, Allen Robinson must have a rabbit's foot in his pocket. Luckiest dude in college football. Everyone just gives him yards. :lolol:

runs into his own blocker in gif1

love the moves in #2 but again who is out there with the score being what it is

in #4 it's not even fair because he's running against a bunch of slow white guys

blatant block in the back in the last gif

    it's easy being a critic:smiley1:

Lets draft Penns entire offensive line! Best blocking unit ever! I hope all GM's not named Colbert can only see great blocking and his lucky rabbits foot. I Would take Robinson on this team in a second.

:lolol: I'll give you for a big guy he is shifty. He looks more like a 200 lber. I'm sure with the Steeler's liking of hometown guys we will give Robinson a look in the mid to late rounds.

I thought he was a 3rd round pick before he was at the Combine and I didn't think he did much there to help himself. I'm not really high on him, he probably slots in somewhere between the 12th and 15th best WR for me. The fact that WR is so deep probably won't help him. Its a tough call, I've seen him listed all over the place. I know Draft Scout has a late 1st round grade on him. I don't personally see that. Alot of sites have him in the 3rd round too.

screens like that are run sometimes because guys can't get open downfield during a game. not saying this is the case for him but if said team wants the ball in they're guys hands sometimes this is a good way to do it. just sayin.

I agree dar, he outran his blocking in a couple of those.

cooks and Matthews don't do bad on those types of plays either.

also as BF says about those PSU linemen, they look pretty good in space and there are a couple in this draft. or even after this draft.

all this stuff tells me is whether we get one early or later, these guys have some talent to help a team. I'm not ruling out the kid from pitt yet either later on in this draft. pretty good year for receivers.:smiley1::cool:

I've had him as a fringe 2nd/3rd rounder. He's in the top 10 IMO. If the Steelers could get him at the end of the 3rd, that'd be great. I don't go to Draft Scout really, but I think a first round grade is a little high for him.

He doesn't have a problem getting separation, at least, it wasn't an issue in the games I watched. Hackenburg is terribly inaccurate, though, so those calls are playing to the offense's strengths. At least, that's a nice way for me to put it. There is some great blocking at the LOS on a lot of those screens.

I agree, Mac, this is a great year for receivers, and the Steelers should be able to get a great value on one in rounds 2-4.

On Robinson- these are just a few quick gifs to explain why his YAC on screens are so high, don't read too much into them everyone. He had probably 100 other passing attempts during the season. :)

Yes, I was sorry to see Matthews run so well. Might have run himself into a 1st round pick. That's a guy I really want.
