But you didn't factor in any tie ballgames in your scenarios. :)

right now the Steelers have a better conference record however if they both go 1-1 and assuming the Titans lose against the Saints but beat the Texans both conference records would be the same. The Steelers then lose on strength of victory (whatever that means).

Not necessarily true the Texans own head to head tiebreakers over both the Patriots and Chiefs so they will still have a chance to get that number 3 seed or possibly the 2 seed still if they finish with the same record as both or one. So the Texans I think even if they wrap the division up next week are gonna play for that 3 seed over the 4 seed so that they can play either the Steelers or Titans over the Bills in the wildcard game.

So we’ll see how it all plays out but the bottom line here still is if the Steelers win their last 2 games against a bad Jets teams and a Ravens team that will probably be resting a lot of their starters they are in the playoffs no matter what Tennessee or Houston or anybody else does.

Yea that’s why losing that game to the Bills last night was critical. Had they won that game the strength of victory scenario wouldn’t have come into play had both the Steelers and Titans finished 9-7 because they would have won the common opponents tiebreaker which is the tiebreaker that comes into play after conference record and before strength of victory.

So the bottom line here now is no matter what happens in these game this week with the Steelers and Jets and Titans and Saints it’s all gonna come down to what happens in that Titans Texans game the final week. The Steelers just have to win one of these last two games against either the Jets or Ravens on the road to assure themselves that they will get in over the Titans based on conference record tiebreaker if they lose that game to the Texans the last week of the season. The Steelers still control their own destiny if both the Steelers and Titans happen to both win out and both finish at 10-6. I have a hard time seeing that happening though. The Titans aren’t gonna win both games against the Saints and at Houston. They might not win either game which is kind of what the Steelers need to hope for if they wanna get in the playoffs.

What they do will only be a factor of what helps them going forward.

Thinking anything they do has anything to do with the Steelers playoff potential isn’t thinking at all.

    FYI> 8-8 is not a winning record.

Of course the team (and its fans) should want to make the playoffs. Making the postseason is a great accomplishment for a team that’s been as depleted by injuries as the Steelers have been. Also - and very importantly - playing in a playoff game would provide valuable postseason experience for a whole bunch of young Steelers players. Let’s say that Ben comes back to form next season and we roll into the playoffs as a contender. It will be incredibly valuable having guys like Fitz, Bush, DJ, Washington, etc. have a playoff game under their belts.

If we cannot beat the Jets and the Ratbirds resting their starters, I don`t want us in the playoffs.

Correct. They are not going to risk Lamar getting his knee blown out if they have the 1 seed locked up just to screw the Steelers. With that being said let’s see if we can even beat NYJ on the road. Shockingly I have my doubts

Ben looks like a guy deep into the back 9. I don’t think he will ever be the same at this stage of his life.

I rebounded from a much more significant weight gain in my mid 40’s to get into better shape than I was in when I ran 60 miles per week as a 20 year old. It can be done, and Ben is a competitor. Any speculation about the injury itself being a career ender has been debunked.

Yeah man I so agree and I just don't get the whole "we don't have a chance in the playoffs" thing. We have something we haven't had in a very long time and that is a defense that can take over a game. You don't have a chance if you aren't in it that is for sure. At this point we have so many injuries and missing so many players I feel like just making the playoffs is a win. Now do I want more hell yeah I do and to me honest with ya I want the Rats in the playoffs. However are we going to do it with Duck/MR, and a OC who is clueless probably not but I am happy to have that chance cause you never know!
