Maybe he didnt work as hard as he should have early in his career. But he worked his ass off once he matured. He wouldn't have been able to play for as long as he did if not for his work ethic.

Article from the Steel Wire today pretty much lays out the end of season over the Tomlin era. 2025 hasn’t happened yet, but next season won’t be any different if the Steelers don’t make considerable changes, starting with hiring an outside defensive coordinator with complete autonomy over his unit and play-calls. That kind of move will require owner and president Art Rooney III to relinquish power from Tomlin, something he hasn’t done since Tomlin arrived in Pittsburgh.

At least 3 of our away games are against the Jets, Pats, and Bears. Home schedule is much harder.

Serious question. If we win a playoff game this year, is Tomlin a "good coach?" That seems to be most posters' measuring stick.

To be realistic, I don't think this is a Super Bowl winning roster having no receivers other than Pickens, a shotty Oline, and an aging QB past his prime. I don't think there's any universe where any coach should be expected to win it all with this current group of players.

So, what would you consider to be a reasonably successful season? 1 playoff win? 2? Honestly, I think even making the playoffs with this questionable roster when most media outlets and Vegas picked us to finish dead last in this division is somewhat of an accomplishment.

We played one of the hardest schedules in football this year, and play in one of the best divisions. And that's not me being a Mike Tomlin "homer" or apologist, but I think the team has already exceeded the outlook of many fans and the media for this season in particular.

I'm not excusing prior failed seasons, I'm only looking at this year in isolation.

While it's not the ultimate thing to celebrate, it's worth celebrating. Only 2 other coaches have more consecutive non losing seasons. Cowher didn't do it, Noll didn't do it. You, certainly couldn't do it. Me neither. While I think Tomlin should be replaced, I would miss the consistency if we start going 7-10, 5-12, 0-17.........

I wouldn't miss it if we could get a blue-chip game changer on offense or defense in the draft with a top 10 pick. I'd gladly endure a 6-11 season... to get a "Ben Roethlisberger." I remember 1999 and 2003 very well. Steelers built a Super Bowl winning roster after those down years. Steelers built a good team in the 90's after going 5-11 in 1988.

That’s probably the biggest problem. We can never get over the hump and keep drafting like 20th every damn year.

I mean I would gladly take a couple of 4/5 win seasons if it meant a couple top 10 picks and hope for the future. There is 0 hope as it is right now.

I wouldn't mind seeing a change to the draft format. Everybody gets the same amount of points to bid on players. You can use the following seasons points if you want, but you cannot trade players for draft points. You can trade players for players, or cap space, that's it.

There's too much advantage to getting a top 5 pick in a loaded draft. A team can trade down 3 times, gain four 1st rd picks, and still get their guy. It's bs. You didn't earn that.

Good franchises are punished for being consistently competent, by never having a chance at 'blue chippers' to help move their team from being merely competitive, to a contender.

    But, this will never happen.

    Agree.

But for that matter, why not just go with a lottery system. With the caveat being that teams with worse records get extra "chances" - weighted, in other words. That way, tanking a season wouldn't necessarily guarantee a high pick the next draft. Also, teams perpetually finishing 20-25 (ahem) might actually get a realistic shot at an overall # 1.

Could also see the Tinfoil Brigade saying it's fixed, especially if a SB winner somehow pulls the overall # 1 the following season.

Still better than what we have, and if the league is looking for parity - randomness is one way to go.
