That was Ben’s stat line in the jags game. That int was a good play by Myles jack too. I can’t imagine still losing to Bortles led jags team at home with that line. No excuse…

browns game Ben was a turd for sure.

You’re so right. Honestly I think they had no business being 10-3 going in to this stretch. They overachieved based on turnover luck and grit in one score games and they’ve regressed to something closer to what they are

They were playing really well at times and had some brilliant wins like the ones in Washington and Cincinnati but you can set your watch by this late season collapse and it’s getting pretty tiresome for us fans

In some ways it would be easier if they were just a bad team and finished 6-11 and get a top 12 pick but they never do. Every year they put themselves in a strong position and then collapse like a pile of jenga

No other team does this year in year out as far as I can see. They are generally good or bad across a season for the most part. The Steelers are either as hard as nails or soft as butter when you play them, with no in between

I wonder is it partly a conditioning thing? The Steelers are known for going very hard in the offseason, full contact when other teams are in shorts etc. All the contenders are now peaking and the Steelers are in free fall and it’s the same every year

If Ben had worked as hard as Brady then yes I believe the Steelers would have won more super bowls

He didn’t and the team didn’t

Well deserving of that lifetime contract. It’s working out quite well any year now :thumbs up:

Yeah, but there is one single common denominator over the past 10 years of non-contention. ONE (well two, Rooney and the head coach that can't actually coach...or hire, or discipline).

Tomlin is a team cancer at this point. Many different things, but this team is stuck in mediocrity since Polamalu retired and a little before.

I agree with you Jeh. Ben seemed like the type that did no studying in off-season, didn't eat well, didn't keep himself in good shape. I am sure he said at one point he just doesn't put in that extra. He was still really good, but that's the difference between us winning another SB and Brady not winning quite as many. We offered NO resistance to the Patriots dynasty when we met on the field in late December and January. Other teams did, Ravens had some success, but we did not. Swap Brady and Ben and we'd probably have TWO for the thumb right now.

...and we had to deal with that with a handicapped, unskilled head coach. It just wasn't going to happen. Coach Mike "Albatrossed dead-weight" Tomlin

I've never been a 'fire Tomlin' guy but I'm wondering, is there something to this coaching tree thing? Is he just a cheerleader like many have said?

If he had some tangible coaching philosophy for this long, wouldn't it be well known what that is? Wouldn't it stand to reason that after almost 20 years
he would've had at least one protege of the 'Tomlin Defense' or whatever? What is his philosophy btw?

It seems like he's only known for his Tomlinisms and jerky behavior. That seems like cheerleader stuff to me, which has it's place, but is that irreplaceable?

Is it the quality of the organization that allows him to be continually just above average every year? What exactly is he doing that keeps the team above .500 every year?

The best argument for him being the reason is that he doesn't have a tree. When was the last time one of our coordinators/position coaches got poached and we were sad to see them go? Munch made a lateral move to be with his family. Nobody wants our coordinators. Maybe it is all him.

If he was only around for a few years now it would be one thing but thats not the case. Just things I'm thinking about.

That int gave them the ball in the red zone which they turned into an immediate touchdown. Ben also had a fumble which was returned for a td. All of that happened in the 1st quarter. It’s tough to spot a team 14 points in the NFL, especially in the playoffs.

Overall, Ben was slinging it, but tough to overcome a bad start. The other thing that hurt us that day was being unable to stop the run.

And Cowher's coaches. Tomlin was handed the keys to the Ferrari. All he had to do was put some gas in it.

I can name 4 HCs that never won Super Bowls that were better than Popcorn.

    Marv Levy
    Don Coryell
    Dan Reeves
    Marty Schottenheimer

Big deal Ben put up some big stats after they fell behind early, his two early turnovers and slow start led to them falling behind.

I’m not here to defend Tomlin. Honestly, I’m just a fan, I really don’t know the answer. Here is one fact:

Reid, Tomlin, Harbaugh, and McVay have won Super Bowls with their current teams, while McCarthy, Payton, and Pederson have won with their former teams. It’s just not easy to find a Super Bowl coach. 7 of 32 current coaches.

Of these guys…I wouldn’t want McCarthy or Harbaugh (he’s in the same boat as Tomlin).

What I do think May be true is that a fresh start for Pittsburgh and Tomlin could be a good thing.

what I know is true…we have zero say in it.

I think 18 years is enough, it's stale, and we're hitting the Tomlin glass ceiling alomst every year and the same deficiencies in his teams come crunch time are being seen over and over again.

The time for "running it back" with MT should have been over after last season.

This team going nowhere as currently constituted from an organizational standpoint.

Find a young bright offensive minded HC and give him the "lifetime" contract the other 3 HC's were essentially give.

How many more years to do we have to keep watching the same movie?

We have zero say in anything so why even have a message board with that mentality? You think the Steelers are listening to our brilliant play calling or strategy threads? It’s a place to basically vent and give praise when applicable.
