reps from steelers spent a lot of time with caraun reid a dt from Princeton, kevin norwood a wr from bama, terrance brooks a safety from fla. st, and took a major interest in peirre desir a db from some small school never heard of. I have a classmate who covers the game for a southeastern station. called him earlier to ask a basketball question. he told me alittle about the game and mentioned the steelers were well represented down there and were all business. thought that was good news. don't know where these guys are projected none of them seem like high picks to me

That's pretty cool. Looks also like they are evenly split on offensive and defensive sides of the ball too.

I think I've said Desir's name more than anyone else's lately. He's from Lyndenwood, which is a small school in MO. He probably earned himself a boatload of money between the Shrine game and the Senior Bowl. Wouldn't surprise me if his stock went up 3 or 4 rounds. If he has a good combine, he could be a 2nd or 3rd rounder.

Norwood is kind of 'meh' for me, but he has the physical traits that many might find appealing. I think he's a mid rounder, though it's so early to project that sort of thing.

word down there was that he nailed every interview. they, being the steelers, watched him a lot and had several opportunities to talk to him. maybe we would have to take him in the second since we don't get a third. do you think he is worth that?

No. Based on the fact that being from a small school, I can't watch him against NFL caliber talent. Also, the fact that he's from such a small school makes it really hard to find tape to evaluate him in general. Based on what I have seen via youtube, his stats, his measurables, watching him during the Shrine game and Senior Bowl, and reading all the scouting notes from practices over the past couple weeks I think he'd be a solid 4th rounder for me due to those question marks. The Steelers and other NFL scouting departments may not agree, though.

We don't want to draft another Ricardo Colcoughly sp. Not before fourth round on Desir.

That's the combine. I don't believe any formal rules like that exist for Senior Bowl week.

you are correct on that. I knew I read something about 60 players and the combine has the rule but they did meet with 60 at the SR. bowl. that's where my memory was confusing me about it. here's a portion of it. http://www.steelersdepot.com/2014/0...at-least-60-players-while-at-the-senior-bowl/

seem they have their eyes on a limited amount of guys.

My thoughts exactly, unless they dominate
in there league, there are just too many
questions and high learning curve that exist.
In todays NFL players need to be ready
to play on the varsity team real quickly.

I think Desir is much more like a Cortez Allen or maybe even an Ike Taylor (without the speed). Desir did have 25 INTs in his 4 years. That's pretty close to dominate.

The buzz at the Senior Bowl definitely seemed to revolve around these long CBs. Unfortunately, where I think alot of these guys were pegged in Rounds 4 & 5, you could see Desir, Jean-Baptiste, McGill & Aitken all go in Rounds 2-3. Its a copycat league and GMs around the league will try to copy the Seattle DB model.

I think desir's speed is his main downfall. add playing against small school talent and that's two strikes. with the lack of players on our roster at DB, I'm not so sure that would be a good pick for us. we are just too thin right now to take a lot of chances. we also need to add some speed back there. McGill, huff, fuller and maybe cockrell, darby, bailey, sorensen would be guys on my radar. I'm really torn on a guy like desir.

I guess if they did and he panned out it would allow them to make a decision on the ILB's and drop one of them. He could be the guy that comes in to play the "Big" nickle package that they ran so much of last year. I agree though that's a big stretch for a 2nd rounder. The Steelers should get a third round compensation pick though (Unless Goodell takes it away as punishment). If he's there at that pick?

I'd like to see a younger safety though that would stick through the roster cuts.

huff, bailey, darby, and I think cockrell and McGill could play safety. bailey definitely. he's very good around the LOS. huff and darby are both safeties. what's nice is most of these guys can play either. that gives a lot of flexibility with using various amounts of DB's. with shamarko and huff, we would by far have the fastest set of safeties in the league and both with corner abilities in coverage.
