I feel bad for Alex Smith. Look at the position he is in. He leads his team to the NFL Championship game, a muffed punt away from the Superbowl and how does he get rewarded ? He gets shafted by a Harbaugh as he doesn't get a new contract and then he finds out they are potentially bringing in Manning A 36 YEAR OLD WHO MAY NOT LAST HALF THE SEASON TO REPLACE HIM ! I hope the 49ers don't land Peyton and then because of the disrespect they directed at Alex Smith, he signs with a new team wether that be Seatle Miami or even Cleveland. Classeless move by a Classeless Harbaugh. :amen:

While it may be a crappy situation it happens. The 49ers have been working on a new deal with Smith for a while...so its not like they completely ignored him. But ya know...Smith had that one decent season and thats it...he's sucked the rest of the time he's been in the league. They already drafted his future replacement in the 2nd rd last year and if they have the chance to bring in someone like Manning who is better than Smith and could mentor their QB of the future and such...why not? Now I could see if Smith has been a star their his entire career/etc but thats not the case...he is not an elite QB by any means.

But this same thing could be said about the Titans (who brought in the vet QB in Hasselbeck last yr to go with their 1st rounder Locker)...or the Broncos who have 1st rounder Tebow. Same could be said for both...I'm sure Hasselbeck would be like WTF...as he was brought in for the vet/mentor role to Locker...now he could be replaced by Manning?

It sucks...but it happens all the time...but in all these cases...Manning would be replacing a player worse than he actually is...and in 2 of the cases he would be grooming those teams QBs of the future...and I'd rather have Manning do the grooming than Hasselbeck or Smith.

Flynn signed with Seattle and Smith met with the Dolphins for 5 hours today. Smith might do OK in Miami.

49ers would be absolute idiots if they didn't try for Peyton. Smith had a nice year but that's it, just one year. Peyton is so far superior to him, bad neck, age and all. That said, I think Peyton stays in the AFC.

If Alex Smith signs with Miami, he is a moron. He has it as good as he's gonna get in SF. They finally figured him out, and they are willing to pay him. Great defense, OL is coming along, they will work on the lack of weapons at WR. And he already made bank before. If all he gets is a few extra million dollars, he won't even live to see it paid, because he'll have flopped by then on a crappy Dolphins team.

I think he's just stalling for more money, now that he knows SF isn't about to replace him.

He looks good, but all he is right now is a bundle of potential. Smith is a good QB who can win now, and they are in win-now mode.

Smith also this weekend dropped off supplies and helped search for the missing 15 year old girl in CA. That was a nice thing to do. BTW he dodged the Publicity too. Just did it quiet.

I was really hoping we'd land him as a backup a couple years ago, and was lambasted on the old board :-( ...He would have been dirt cheap at the time and would have been great with Arians. Now Arians is gone and Smith's making what, $9 mil a year. But they got Manningham and retained their other weapons. They are serious contenders next year.
