Wishful thinking Mac, if hes not the LT here, he will be someplace else. He's proven he can play the position, somebody will pay him, short arms and all.

Well some unsolicited advice: something less technical and more understanding might get your point across better, and keep people from thinking you're nothing but a petty jerk looking for an argument to win.

For example, instead of something provoking and not-at-all helpful like:

"Not sure where this notion that he just learned the position comes from?
    [end of statement]"

    you could say:

"Well, he did play one year of OT in college," with an optional addition, "but I agree that what Villenueava has done is remarkable. I'm happy to see him having success."

Then someone else could say, "Oh, I didn't know about that one year in college. Still, that's not much, considering [all the reasons mentioned above]" and you could say, "Agreed!" And we all can stop rolling our eyes.

By the way, since we're being so technical today, your first statement is a complete lie. "Not sure where this notion that he just learned the position comes from?" is not only misuse of a question mark; it's untrue. You might disagree with the premise he just learned the position, but you know exactly where the notion comes from. You cannot say one year at a crappy run-blocking college where he received god knows what kind of coaching (possibly, "Hey AV, I know you're new to the position, so don't worry too much, just know the snap count and then go hit the guy in front of you"), and then 6 years off prepares someone to be a LT in the NFL. You know he changed positions about a million times, and had a wide variety of positions, bouncing from DL, OL, TE, WR, and DL again, with a side trip to Afghanistan somewhere in between. You know that, although his degree of preparation meets your standards, it is still far less preparation than probably 99 or 100% of OTs in the NFL, so by contrasting his experience with theirs, then relatively speaking, he just learned the position. You knew all that, so the statement "Not sure where this notion that he just learned the position comes from?" just is not true.

Dang you got all that from my post? May need to rethink why I'm paying for a therapist.

How so? I think Beachum's price came down significantly when his ACL snapped, unfortunately for him but maybe fortunately for us.

I think he meant by not accepting an extension when he had the chance. Now his price will have gone down, but we also have an alternative, which we didn't at the time. So you could make the case it's too expensive to spend big money on Beachum when we have AV to play for peanuts and guys like Bell and DeCastro to pay.

Gotcha. I misunderstood. I do think Beachum will be a much lower priority as the Steelers consider their upcoming free agents. I'm glad AV has stepped and shown that he can play the position. I think he'll continue to develop and get better under Munch's tutelage.

no way we sign beachum to a big long term contract. DeCastro will get that big long term contract. AV will be back at a cheap price for several years. Steelers will not sign DeCastro and Beachum to a big contract.

There was an article written by Max Starks a week or so ago evaluating each lineman and he said that Beachum is absolutely our best guy and that DeCastro has not nearly lived up to the hype surrounding him. I'm not saying I don't like DeCastro but he was considered the heir apparent to Fanneca and I am absolutely saying that he has not lived up to that.

Maybe so, but I'd rather have DeCastro at RG money than Beachum at LT money considering everyone else we should sign. I would consider DeCastro the heir apparent to Faneca. He doesn't completely fill Faneca's shoes but it's hard to replace a guard that's in consideration for the HOF. He's at the least a solid RG with upward progression and a pro bowl-like reputation.

i have to agree about DD. he's not really worth breaking the bank on. i like him a lot but he is a right guard, which should be fairly easy void to fill if he cost too much. sure i'd like to keep him but at what cost is too much for what he does? is he really the difference maker on the line? is pouncey? beachum? foster? wallace? AV? we have done a good job running the ball and protecting ben for the most part but is that due to any one can't live without guy or more due to munch?

AV has cost Beachem big money, Unless Beachum is willing
to play at a Steeler friendly figure? I feel we will have pressing needs
to allocate and operate under the cap. There are players come up
    that will want compensated.

i read the cap could be as high as 155 mil. by next year. we should be able to swing it. woodley's 8 mil. will come off our dead money by next year and that should help alot. we shouldn't have to spend much money on the d-backs or at least these d-backs.

backup qb should save some money if we dump grad. kicker? shamarko? cam thomas? spence? spaeth? DHB? will allen? cortez allen? will j.? legs? beachum? blake? not a lot of big money amounts but these type of guys add up and put that with the cap increase and it may not be that bad.

Beachum seems like a team guy, if I was the coaching staff I'd feel him out on a move to LG. Doesn't solve the money issue, but Khan can figure that out if they wanted to go that route.

Beachum is a free agent, he probably won't be back unless he signs a one year deal.

Adams is a waste of a roster spot.
