Did they give up on him too soon? He was drafted to be the successor to Hampton because McClendon play has been underwhelming. I would've liked to see him get some extended playing time this season they need that big body in the middle. Another wasted draft pick is all it is.

Seen him playing in one of the Cardinals games a week or two ago. I'm surprised they gave up on him, I'm sure they had their reasons though. I agree that McLendon has not shown much flash, may not be his fault, may be the defensive scheme?

underwhelming play? I'm not sure how you have come to that point. what has ta'amu done? woods has played as well as hoke if not better in most years. 11 tackles and a sack. mclendon has 29 tackles and a forced fumble so far this year.:cool:

It's probably more likely that Fangupo showed more after one training camp than Ta'amu did with two and a full season of practice within the system.

Repeat DUI, evading police, hitting a pedestrian... Give up too soon? No, surprised the Bengals didn't snag him as part of their convict rehabilitation program.

One of many head scratching moves by the front office. Jettison your draft pick, whom you stood by after a messy off field incident only to cut him for a guy that is nearly 30 years old. I don't get it and don't believe for a second that Fangupos play is sooooo much better that you don't factor in the age.

Disagree about McClendon though, I think he has done well but probably better suited as a DE.

    This.
Woods was ahead of Ta'amu in depth, he's a part of the equation.

Yes, they did give up on him too soon. The Cards are raving about his run stuffing abilities. How are we doing stuffing the run again?

Outside of 6-7 big running plays we're actually doing very well. A blown assignment by Timmons on that PRyor td run, missed tackle by Williams against Peterson... Look at our run defense outside of those types of explosive plays and we are pretty stout.

True, our defensive ranking is very misleading, uncharacteristic big plays is what is doing them in.

We made the no name running back from Miami playing on one good ankle in the snow look like Jim Brown last week. I've watched every game this year and I haven't seen anything that makes me believe our run defense is doing very well.

Go ahead, friends. Lay the stats on me and prove me wrong, lol!

The big plays are very consistent, a good team will have it happen every now and again but it happens to us every week. 3 weeks in a row and receivers are putting up huge numbers and the inability to stop anything in the 2nd half isn't big play problems, it speaks volumes. I'm glad the got rid of Ta'amu, and I don't think Mclendon is bad, in fact he has looked good but again, he draws the double team more often as Ziggy Hood hasn't been doing well and as old as Keisel is, it still looks like the defense does better at stopping the run with him in there versus Ziggy.

It still doesn't make sense that we stuck with Ta'amu through his personal indiscretions and then cut him loose whe he seemed to have overcome his issues and had accepted responsibility for them. He had played well in the preseason too and was starting to flash some ability. His release and Dwyer's release made me really start to doubt some of Tomlin's personnel moves.

When McClendon was a backup he would make those splash plays in the backfield, as a starter not so much. With Hampton gone why not get a good look at Ta'amu after using a 4th rd pick, it's not like Fangupo or Woods are doing anything special.

how about woods against cinci tonight? he's doing quite well stuffing the middle and that's why he's part of the equation and ta'amu is not.

Taamu did NOT look good this past training camp. He had 1 of 2 nice plays in preseason games, but as far as in camp practices he was not impressing. This was his second year too, and showed little to no improvement, he wasn't grasping this defense. Hebron vs. Taamu was a wash so the Steelers chose the guy with less baggage.

I was surprised we traded up for Taamu, and I am also surprised we cut Dwyer, Felix Jones shouldn't even be on this roster really....

Honestly I think we draft out NT of the future early in the Draft... Mcclendon is not the guy.

I hope they don't draft a NT early because in today's NFL the NT is most likely a 2 down player. They should be able to find one in the later rounds.

I think the problem is needing a really big guy in there at NT for the way they run the scheme. Casey didn't just have the weight, he had the actual physical stature to occupy that spot. Think of it as Bettis versus another back at his approximate weight. He was clearly a fire plug.
