Watching the KDKA Sports show. They brought up something I never realized. Alabama pays its coaching staff more combined than the Steelers do. Wow.

Can you say cheap? In a non salary cap league, the Rooney's would be like the Nuttings.

How is that even a fair comparison?! College Coaches are paid via a myriad of methods; no one college program pays their coach the same way. Some pay for it via sponsorship money or through escrow via boosters. In the NFL, that money is paid our directly by the Owners.

Now, to say that the Rooney's have the smallest staff due to that fact would be acceptable. Comparing a college teams finances to an NFL Teams?!

That is no better than comparing an apple vs a cucumber.

Because despite how lucrative college sports is, the NFL still makes oodles more. Smallest staff also adds into this. When you watch other teams, our staff always feel so lacking in comparison. The hiring of Adrian Klemm is an example. That is as cheap and lacking as it gets in terms of a hire.

Per coach or total? I thought Alabama had a huge coaching staff.

Well yeah, Alabama is paying to win championships, not be better than .500 every year.

The new low standard is the new low standard.

The NFL does make "oodles" more.... but those "oodles" more are not the full sum of that Owners total net income but a series of other factors, some more extreme than other.

For one, the Steelers are a small market team owned by a locally owned Owners operating in that specific portion. In addition, each NFL Owner needs to have a 30% stake in that team to even be one. This right off the bat is problem number one. For problem number two, the league has revenue sharing to ensure all teams have a fair advantage. However, this system is very flawed in some cases; doubly so given the fact that the Green Bay Pakcers Inc. is comprised of 400k+ shareholders; the total amounts of that revenue going to.... well... the shareholders. This means that each team is given a finite portion to allocate to their team; not 100% of it to the owner. Do not forget state taxes and other forms of taxes as well, eating away at this "oodles" of money even more. Finally, marketing and advertisement. While the Steelers are currently ranked number 32 in terms of value, said value sadly does not entirely equate as to how much the Rooneys have to spend. Plenty of factors decide this of course. The biggest seller is, you guessed it, success. The more consistent level of succsss the Steelers are, the more income the Rooneys have at their disposal.

College operates nothing like this at all. Again, sponsors and boosters are the big reasons as to why this is; contracts with networks and athletic directors being another set of logistics. For that matter, college vs NFL is a different world of logistics all together.

Now, to say that the Rooneys are among the most poor Owners is no surprise because... they are. However, that has little to do with the NFL and more so to do with their investments and market; small based. That has always been how the Rooneys operated and, will continue to do so for the foreseeable future.

If anything, money involving coaching does not beget a world title. Jerry Jones, Daniel Synder and even Shahid Khan (a major exception to the small market rule mind you) have far bigger coaching staffs who get paid more as well. However, what has this amounted to... exactly?! :hmm:

(Some) Colleges don't pay the players in case no one noticed. Alabama paying for five star recruits would cut into their coaching ranks.

Let's get into practice. Why pay for coaches that won't be spending much time with the players? College doesn't have limited interaction, NFL suffers from the collective bargaining agreement.

You are right Roo but I won't say suffer from the CBA. Bama is in the SEC and that conference get tons of money from sponsors and advertisers.

Alabama has more coaches on staff than any NFL team. A co, I Ed comparison is unfair. That being said, they probably pay more than most NFL teams.

I’m thinking Rooney must’ve dipped his pen in somebody else’s ink?
