Everyone knows the play calling is unimaginative, predictable and non aggressive. However even when the play call may be correct and line does pick up everyone, Pickett for the most part, takes the short option, doesn’t go through his progressions and for love of God rolls or moves out of pocket when it is not necessary. He has zero pocket presence.

Unlike the TD play in the 4th quarter, he made the read pre snap, stood in the pocket, and fired a perfect strike. This is also because everyone in the Baltimore Organization knew Canada was going to probably call a run play and had 9 guys at the line. I hope Pickett on this last play called an audible which gives me some hope that maybe this is fixable. Why these same audibles do not occur in the first 3 quarters I have no idea.

One other note, Warren should be the #1 RB, hands down.

The line is a factor, especially Cole going from average to terrible. That has put pressure in Pickett's face and disrupted the running game.

That said, all of the players are being set up to fail by Canada's predictable, uninspired offensive system. It is far too easy for defenses to read what is coming and they do very little to create openings for receivers. This makes it difficult to properly evaluate the players on offense, especially Canada.

Mike DeFabo wrote about this in his Steelers mailbag on The Athletic.

"Here’s my biggest issue with the offense: The Steelers have an offensive coordinator who has never proven he can do it in the NFL leading a quarterback who has never proven he can do it in the NFL.

It’s really difficult to isolate variables and assign blame when neither one has done it before. That’s why I strongly feel the Steelers need to find an established coordinator who has been successful if they are going to properly evaluate Pickett next season."
