This is one of the more "thought provoking threads", I`ve seen on here, in a while, so I have to comment...
First off, now that I`ve seen the "wounds"...
They look more like scratches, to me...
My new kitten tears my flesh about that much, when she tries to jump on my back, or get on my lap,
when I am wearing shorts, sitting at the computer, reading this...
I expected to see cuts that needed stitches ...
Maybe Adrian "went overboard". Maybe he didn`t.
If he thought he did, he would have tried to hide it.
    He Didn`t.
I am here to tell BFT, this is not just a "southern thing"...
Maybe it is, because all my kin came from the South. (W. Va, and Fla.)...
But I never got hit by a "switch"...
Never had to "pick my own", even tho I was threatened by it...
Mom DID hit me with "Hot Wheels" tracks, and Wooden Spoons, and Dad did hit me with belts once in a while...
After they split up, and she was stuck dealin` with me, the best she could...
Usually, my Dad would smack my ass with an open hand, with my pants up..
NEVER hit me in the face.
Pinned me up against a wall, off my feet, ONE time, and threatened to hit me in the face, after I stole Mom`s car, when I was 14...
    Just sayin...
SOME kids need to be TAUGHT respect...
Puttin me in "Timeout", would have had NO effect, and this was before I would have had a cellphone, or video game system, that you could take away from me.
    So, yes,
I think parents today are "soft", in general, and that`s why teenagers today think they can talk back to teachers,
cops, bosses, or whatever with no fear of consequences...
    I also agree with Snack.
There are new tools at our disposal, as parents today, that My parents didn`t have.
Take away the cell phone(if you`ve let them have one).
    Take away the video games...
I have changed my ways, when it comes to dealing with kids.
I used to believe they needed to FEAR you(or the consequences), to Respect you.
Nowadays, I`m more in line with what Snack said...
I`m taking this away from you, and this is why...

This is not a southern thing.I have lived in Western Pa most of my life. We had a weeping
willow tree in our yard and my mom could bring it.
She wasn't a child abuser. In my generation if you deserved it you were getting it.
