I don't see how he couldn't go in. His stats were nearly identical to C-Marts' AND he won a Super Bowl.

He gets in on his size alone. There's no one else who's been his size and played as long in the modern era.

There was that poll about overated players by the current NFL players that had him up there. I do remember him trucking some of those same players though...

I guess the question is more what's keeping him out?

    Competition from other nominees?

Over-representation of Steelers in the HoF (which is always a silly argument to me - we can;t help the fact that we've been so good over the years...)

I think this is the year for The Bus. He was a victim of unfortunate circumstances with Faulk and Martin the past two years because they won't put two RB's in the same year. As others have said, he transcended the game because he was a big, bruising runner that actually had a shelf life longer than 3 years. I think the voters recognize that and he gets in this year.

I vote Brian Urlacher. Then Bettis can knock him flying as he finishes his speech, just for old times sake.

Stats alone should be enough to get him in. The real reason though can't be measured by stats alone. What type of leader did he make, how did Bettis being on the field affect the entire offe, the opposing defense and the coaches game plan (OUr coaches and theirs).

The Bus was a great leader, a great football player and affecfted every aspect of the game when he played. Even in his last year when most thought he was washed up he "Put on his snow tires" and single handleded led us tot he superbowl. He took a 7-5 team that was talented but in trouble and put them on his shoulders, the rest is history!

So yes Jerome Bettis should get in, he deserves it and he has earned it! Lets crank up the Bus one last time and move him from Detroit to Canton!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Also, Bettis transcended the game. He was (and still is) one of the most recognizable players of the past two decades. This is why he had marketing deals with Snickers and Papa Johns. And then there was the great 2001 Visa ad where the wrong song is played over the PA (Minnie Ripperton's "Loving You") and Bettis is shown taking off his helmet and saying "What the f...?" Great ad.

Thats who I think should as well. Cowher was the reason Bettis was brought to Pittsburgh. But who knows maybe he will have Lou Holtz or his high school coach?
