I'm just going to give my thoughts and then stay out of the fray since we really do not know the whole story. This stuff is not uncommon and it is very easy to knee jerk the situation especially with some press members always wanting to make a splash with some story.

That being said, right now, it is very clear that there are cancers on this team among the healthy cells. Two options with cancer, cut it out or control it with medication.

It is clear Brown IS a cancer. His actions over the last couple of years prove that he is a "Me" guy. As they say, actions speak louder than words. It is also true that Bell is/was a cancer. Again, actions speak louder than words. Cancers are slow growing and tend to just eat away at the good cells. Hence, this locker room is a mess and is infested.

Forget Bell, but just remember he is a cancer. The body is sick and needs treatment.

Now moving on to Brown, the cancer has become contagious. He has repeatedly shown through actions that he puts his interests above the team. If these reports are correct, this only confirms my belief once again.

So, you have only two choices. Remove the cancer and in this case that would mean trade him. The other option is to treat the cancer and keep it under control or contained. Those that are familiar with prostate cancer know that you can live with it and it can be put under control. So, in Brown's case, you treat it and live with it. Doesn't mean it won't come back or get worse, but you can treat it. Obviously, there are risks with both options.

Over in another thread I debated the fact that the NFL is a business first and the Rooney's will do what is best from a business standpoint. Some did not agree with me and feel the Rooney's are somehow different than the other owners. I disagree from a business standpoint. Then in this thread some have actually made my point but indicating that the Steelers would take a huge hit in cap space if they traded Brown before June 1. So in that regard, it is a business decision (money) and not a personal decision. Trading Brown then comes down to a BUSINESS decision. Like I said, the Rooney's will do what they think is best for the business.

On a final note, I do not like Tomlin for a number of reasons, and this one illustrates one of those reasons. He should have taken care of this long ago when it was first discovered yet he chose to kick the can down the road and now has to deal with it in a much larger form. I DO agree with his decision not to play Brown on Sunday.

The other thing that will be interesting to see is how the talking heads in general react to this situation. I hate to bring race into the issue but in many of these cases you usually have a white HC that has problems with a star player who happens to be black. Some of these talking heads always point to the fact that the HC is not in tune with the player, i.e. he is not black and therefor cannot relate.

In this case, you have a highly respected HC who is black and who is loved by the talking heads and is praised for how he handles this players. So, I wonder how many of these race baiters in the press will side with Tomlin in dealing with a star player who just happens to be black. They can't say he doesn't know how to handle him because he can't relate, so I will be watching to see how the talking heads handle this situation and the discipline or trade that might result.

Tomlin bears some fault here, but as many say "it starts at the top" and he isn't the top.

This starts from Art II then Colbert then Tomlin. Was it after last year that Art II and Colbert both said in separate interviews the distractions were overblown media driven things or something of that nature?

That’s funny....my point exactly...wonder how many SBs we would have won with a real coach with all this talent. Just pissed away with this clown, but keep drinking Tomlin’s kool-aid. Great win percentage though!

After sleeping on it, and not a little hungover...

Time to blow it all up. This whole organization needs culture change. Too many problems overall, and they build on each other.

We have a good core of young players and good teammate variety veterans. Keep the front 7 on D, maybe Edmunds. Keep the o-line and Vance.

And get whatever you can for the rest - yes, Ben too. If you think he's not part of the problem, you're naive. I'm so over head cases ruining this team.

Kick Tomlin's "Close the barn door after the horse is already gone" ass to the curb. Keep Munchak if possible. the rest can get gone too. I don't have a problem with RF, but whoever the new HC is should be able to name his assistants. Culture change.

Hire a HC who has a firm hand. Start rebuilding. With the core we have, it shouldn't take more than 2-3 years. I'll gladly take even 5 years of pain to get us away from this mess and back to where Steeler football should be.

I think Rooney is a big part of the problem. Unless he is stupid,he sees what is happening and does nothing about it.

One thing that is not overblown: AB got disciplined for actions detrimental and missed a game that the team needed to win to make the playoffs. One of teams best players sat out a must win game, as a healthy scratch. And the team concocted a BS knee injury to downplay it. I dare say that's a story , and a big one, regardless of the player, coach or team.

I think your post is a bit contradictory. You talk about treating the cancer as a viable option, and then complain that Tomlin hasn’t done enough to deal with the cancer. If this has been a problem for the last 6+ years like Clark says, and it’s really only blowing up the past couple of years, then it shows that Tomlin may have been effectively treating the cancer for years.

I’m not entirely defending Tomlin, but he has apparently had a handful trying to manage AB, and for the most part he’s been able to keep things from killing the locker room. I think he did the right thing making AB inactive Sunday.

What I have a BIG problem with is that we restructured AB’s contract while knowing that he’s a problem. If we hadn’t done that, it would be much, much easier to trade him and handle the cap implications. And why did we restructure his contract? To tag another problem child for the second time

Too far IMO. Ben is inconsistent at times, but he’s still a top 5-10 QB in the league. Also, I’m guessing your proposal to get what we can for the rest doesn’t apply to guys like JuJu, Conner, the O line, and many other promising and high-character players that you didn’t mention.

The reality seems to be no changes whatsoever.

A fan you and I agree totally. The BS story or “ cover up” is just as embarrassing and fruitless. The lie makes Steelers look ridiculous. Just sit him from the game for conduct detrimental and move on. It’s a **** show.

There wasn't social media in that era, which provides a way for AB and Bell do stupid crap and add to the drama.

This isn't just one trustworthy reporter. This is multiple trustworthy reporters. It happened. Stop whining about the messenger and worry about this team eating itself from the inside.

Roethlisberger is usually given Wednesdays off. Why is he supposed to suddenly change his routine the final week of the season. Remember, he was also playing with bruised ribs. There is plenty of real reason for criticism to go around, but this isn't it.

Now if Roethlisberger really was calling out orders to Brown from the sideline while not practicing, I do have an issue there. Let the coaches do the coaching, at least with the veterans. Even then, I am far more concerned about Brown's behavior and Tomlin's inability to deal with this crap.

AB had Wallace and Sanders probably throw Heath in there too , Then Bryant took over Wallace, now he has Ju Ju getting him open. AB always had another threat on the other side. When it's only AB out there he gets shut down. A lot of his great numbers probably came from playing the crap teams, having the browns in your division is half of his season's stats.

Santonio Holmes was dumped because he couldn't put aside the marijuana long enough to stop acting like an idiot. No, let's not bring him in to talk to anybody.

I was speaking personality wise and causing tension within the ranks. Clearly, Ben isn't washed up. So maybe we can get something for him too. If we're going to try to heal, first, rip off the bandaid.

And of course we keep the young guys. I thought I said as much. (I'd take 22 Juju's if I could)

Edit: maybe it wasn't that clear upon reading it. I said we had a good core of young players. And then listed examples of vets to keep. Maybe the confusion was because I said keep Edmunds. That was half a thought in my pre-coffee posting. What I meant to say was keep him and get rid of everyone else in the secondary. And even then, I should have said keep Haden too.

Agreed. Brown is selfish. This is all part of the deal with him. It's not going to suddenly change now.

Both sides handled the Harrison situation badly, but the Steelers' part in it really made no sense.

No...he has been back for many other Steeler functions. Why? He has really been outspoken about his behavior after SB 43 and has manned up and wanted to make things right with Dan. He would be someone who isn't a hypocrit to things of this nature. His career went where after the Steelers???

They had Bell and just enough talent to keep the other teams in check. They had an easy schedule they didn't need a true #2 that season. Bryant picked the right season to get suspended lol

Ryan Clark came out and said back when Wallace turned down his deal they all knew AB was next. He said he told the S&C coach if ya'll pay Brown you're going to create a monster. He said he and AB almost got into a fight because AB was yelling and cursing LeBeau saying Don't touch me because I'm the Franchise!!!!

Makes believing this story even easier.

This goes for everything wrong with the organization. Same faces, same problems and shortcomings. Changes are up to Rooney at this point.
