I think it had something to do with they didn't want Fields running a lot while Wilson was injured. Dude, are you serious Fields looks good with the Jets? It's nothing but football in shorts right now .

I said if he looks good... I don't care what happens before September for him.

And in bold,Tomlin always lives in his fears.

You're too busy being a Cowher fan boy, I guess you forgot the Steelers used to go for two points more than any other team before it became popular.

Fields wanted to be in Pittsburgh last year because he thought he had the best chance of being a starter among the available spots....He's not satisfied with just being a backup even though he showed a lot of class after being benched.

And Tomlin stopped that when it cost him a game against Dallas in 2016.

I wish he'd go on fourth down more often and have a more creative play with that(instead of a simple QB sneak or a run in the middle in front of a wall of the other defense) but it's hard for him to be creative.

The point I am making is that you cant throw shade at Fields for the team only putting up 17 points a game and not Russ when he did the same to flame out at the end of the season.

Fields had to know Wilson was signed to be the starter no matter how you try and frame it. Wilson signed first and the vets on the team were calling him, not many teams were interested in trading for Fields for a reason.

This 100%. So many fans deluding themselves that Fields would have done better down the stretch, despite the reality that the offense never produced with him while it absolutely produced for a period of time with Wilson.

Newsflash: he's not the OC it's not his job to come up with creative plays on fourth down .

It is always the head coach (especially the established ones) who assembles the coaching staff

Tomlin said he was going to have a QB competition before training camp last year....Wilson was on a minimun contract too

I can almost forgive Tomlin for switching to Wilson, you have this SB winner who is on your team, you want to see if he’s still got it. Should have been obvious that he didnt have it any longer but I get the thought process at least.

What is inexcusable is not switching back to Fields when Wilson was looking like hot garbage and the team sputtering and in need of a spark. You inexplicably stick with the guy who is butting heads with your OC and being reigned instead of going back to the guy Smith preferred. That was brilliant coaching there.

I think Tomlin is a very good coach in many aspects, but I'd be fine if he was eventually replaced for reasons like this.
Getting Wilson in at mid-season was the right move. And even if you want to stick with Wilson for the playoffs, take him out for at least a game during those last 4 games. Wilson is an older player, and a "bye" week could have rejuvenated a tired player who they needed rested for the playoffs.

I'm still upset back to the 2015 season. Vick was barely adequate in the OT loss to Baltimore, and then got a win in spite of him against the Chargers (50% completion rate).
Against the Cardinals, Vick almost left the game with negative passing yards. (He finished 3 for 8 with 6 yards. Just before halftime, killing the last minute of clock, he completed a screen pass that Bryant managed to get 7 yards.)

Landry wasn't the second coming of Brady, but he still put up 168 yards against Arizona in less than a half of play. Tomlin mentioned later to the press that he had planned on sticking with Vick, until the injury forced his hand. All of us are stubborn now and again, but that was terrible judgement.

Again Fields got his chance, and failed.
What freaking HC is going to leave a Qb in that can't win a game unless his defense holds a team to 16???
Again Wilson won game the Defense gave up over 16, hell he won games the Defense gave up over 30.
Both sucked, and yet Old man Wilson was still better.

What why is that hard to imagine???
Again Fields didn't beat one team when the Defense gave up over 16 points, and Wilson was beating team when our Defense was giving up 30.....so why would you change after you already seen that??? If Fields isn't beating teams when the D give up over 16 points, he's definitely not beating teams when the D is giving up 30. So what would be the point??
