How many people are going to be shocked when Aaron Rodgers signs with the Vikings?

How many people are going to be shocked when the Steelers pick up Kirk Cousins 4 year $180 million contract only to be replaced by Mason Rudolph at the bye week?

Is there any way the Steelers Front Office can spin picking up Deshaun Watson after he is released by Cleveland??? I am pretty sure it would be a league minimum deal like Russ's was. Funny, Watson is 12 years younger than Rodgers.

Im thinking Aaron Rodgers and the Steelers have a wink/nod in place that after the draft Rodgers will sign the contract. This way they don't lose out on all the compensatory picks next year by signing Rodgers to a meaningless contract before the draft. Why else would Rodgers been in CA playing pitch and catch with our new star receiver DK Metcalf. This also keeps teams wondering what the Steelers are going to do in the draft because they are usually very transparent when it comes to which position group and player they are targeting. However, they already showed their hand early in the process when Tomlin/Khan and crew were watching the DL very very closely.

I also think they are looking at this year's QBs as someone to draft and have sit behind Rodgers for the year and learn. Their plan is more than likely to go DT 1st round, unless they don't like what is left at #21, they can then pivot and draft the future QB sooner (Shaduer Sanders/Jaxson Dart). If they do pick a DT (Grant, Harmon, Nolen), then they can go with a high upside but raw QB like Jalen Milroe in the 3rd.

Next time be more clear with your question.
Rodgers is not a FA that affects the compensatory formula. He was released from his contract by the NYJ, thus a 'street free agent'. Him signing with any team doesn't affect their comps.

Cleveland is not going to cut Watson and take a $167M cap hit this year. ..... on second thought, they are the Browns! They took it on the chin for signing Watson, so why not take it from behind on his exit?

Pointing out that the remaining options all suck, which he was choosing to ignore, is not being a dick.

Colin Cowherd is saying that the hold up is the Vikings are waiting until after OTA's and mini camp are over to determine how healthy JJ McCarthy is. If they have doubts then they will sign Rodgers, if JJ is a full go then they will ride with him this season. Rodgers then will have to decide whether to retire or sign with the Steelers. So the waiting game will go on for a couple of months yet.

I miss the days when the organization had zero tolerance for such drama.

May end next Thursday depending on who they land in the draft. Someone they feel that could start right away as opposed to someone they are content to leave on the bench behind Rodgers for a year.

I mostly agree with you, but the one thing that makes it more palatable is that we have Metcalf for 5 years. We have some time to get it done with him, and the way the cap is going up, he'll be making average money in a couple years.

No real news from Rodgers today, he said he has been in contact with Tomlin. Rodgers said he's dealing with personal issues with people close to him. He said money isn't the issue he would play for 10 million, he doesn't think he's holding the Steelers hostage.

If JJ McCarthy's health is the determining factor of Rodgers going to Minn, does anybody happen to have Jeff Gillooly's cell number?

There's a difference between 'could' start and should start. There is only one QB that should start right away. The rest of this class, while they could start right away, really should be sitting for at least half a season if not red shirted behind a vet.

I didn't have an issue with the contract either. My issue was that it was a perfect time to recover from some of the drafting misses toward the end of Colbert's run by adding more. They had the cap space and are likely not going to be saddled with a franchise QB's salary over the next 3-5 years. Same type of strategy teams like the 49ers, Commanders, Vikings, and Bucs have used.

    Rodgers is still an option

In a nearly 45-minute appearance on "The Pat McAfee Show" on Thursday afternoon, the quarterback offered little clarity on his next steps or a timeline for making a decision, but he said he's been transparent with teams pursuing his services.

"I wasn't stringing anyone along. I wasn't holding anyone hostage," Rodgers said from his house in Malibu, California. "I was honest from the jump about where I was at mentally and some of the constraints I have in my life right now that warrant my attention.

"I'm open to anything and attached to nothing. Retirement could still be a possibility, but right now my focus has been -- and will continue to be -- on my personal life. And that's what I've told the coaches. There's still conversations that are being had. It's all been very honest lines of communication."

He also said next week's NFL draft will have no impact on his plans.

Rodgers was spot on with his take. It's all the talking heads in and around the league that decided to make it some big bruhaha. It isn't. The guy is simply trying to decide whether he wants to commit to a team this season. Everything else you've heard is just spew from people trying to make a little coin off the situation.
