I'm actually in SI. The year the stupid Patriots were on the cover for Brady's first SB. Should have been the Steelers but I regress. 2001 I believe the issue is from. I do have a copy somewhere.

I had front row seats to a Penguin/flyer game in Philly. Right up against the glass. It was awesome but Pens lost in OT. SI took a picture of some Flyer and put it in the issue. There I am in the background with my female friend from work. It's a cool story how my nephew saw magazine in Doctors office, saw me by chance and stole the issue for me. I've had years of fun with it.

And without question, they don't know what they're doing...

As much as I can’t stand the thought of A Rod coming to the Steelers, on the field the 2024 A Rod was definitely better than the 2024 versions of all available FA options still out there (and all that were available save Darnold IMO). But Father Time is undefeated and in terms of personality he brings all that baggage.

Just say no - unless he’s cheap enough for us to still make some other FA additions who can help us (Kendall Fuller, Dobbins to name 2 on my radar), and he decides today. If neither are true, move on.

    But I do

So at least in this case they made the right decision

Although I can’t take any personal credit

I figured. I was just giving you a hard time.

Throwing Wentz out there was my way of saying how much I don't want Rodgers.

I understand the sentiment, but Wentz is an entitled jackass, too, but without the Hall of Fame resume.

Unless they are trading Pickens for a pick that'll lead to a more typical WR who can run better routes short to intermediate, these 2 do not fit Rodgers.. the offense is made for Russ, so assuming he's way cheaper I hope they sign Russ if not trading Pickens

SI used to rely on some of the best writers and photographers in the business. Now they rely on randos sending them stuff.

I hope it isn't true that the Steelers are missing out on other free agents they wanted because they are waiting on Rodgers. If that is true, it was incredibly stupid. How could they not know he would play games? Rodgers wants to be courted. He needs to be told he is the prettiest girl at the prom even when he isn't.

I guess it works for some randos, my bikini pics were outright rejected for the swimsuit issue, though admittedly I should have shaved my chest hairs.

That falls on Omar, had the figures for the new year, had the needs, yes the asking price is going up and certain positions skyrocket. You set the number and go, 2 years in a row no QB's under contract. This is not a way to build your team.

There's a thought making the rounds that they're not signing any big FAs in order to protect the potential compensatory picks they'll receive from the departed next year. I don't really approve of that strategy if true. Within reason it's something to consider - if you were considering a Stephon Gilmore but knew Darius Slay was about to be released, e.g. - but it shouldn't be the primary force driving your decisions unless you're already packing it in for 2025.

If the Steelers were doing that they shouldn't have acquired Metcalf. Instead, they should be pawning off some of their own vets for picks. And they sure as hell shouldn't be looking to sign Rodgers - being a release he doesn't factor in the comp pick formula, but there's zero point in putting anything significant into the Rodgers retirement fund. Save that money and invest it in younger, more foundational players until the right skill players come along.

What the Steelers are doing thus far feels half-assed. Big splash last weekend followed by crickets two days into free agency. They fail to lock up either of QBs that presented any chance of upside, and are supposedly now trying to get a guy that's at the tail end of his career and will likely cost far more than he's worth, not to mention the locker room distraction.

For the record... I'd rather have Russell Wilson back, than Aaron Rodgers.

One possible upside with Rodgers is that if there is one player in the league that could frustrate Tomlin enough to make him reconsider his life's work, it would be Rodgers.

Feel free to pepper this post with the 'Very Optimistic' tag:)

The potato goes in the front

A man goes to the beach...

...and he sets himself up to show off his new beach bod. A few women glance his way, but none strike up a conversation. He looks a little ways down the beach to see lots of women around an older guy who is nowhere near as chiseled as him.

As the crowd disperses, the man approaches his competition and asks the older man what his secret is.

"Sure, I'll tell you! It's real easy. First thing I do before stepping out onto the beach is put a potato in my Speedo. It's a real eye catcher, if you know what I mean!"

Seeing the older man's success, he decides to give it a try. The next morning he stops at the market and buys the biggest potato he could find and heads off to the beach. He sets himself up like the day before and puts the potato in his Speedo, but now even less women are glancing at him. Some are even making comments under their breath.

Confused, the man finds the older man from the day before and asks what gives.

"I did it just like you said, stuffed the potato in my Speedo and everything!"

The older man shakes his head in disgust.

"You idiot! You're supposed to put the potato in the FRONT!"

There is even a report that Rodgers is hoping the Vikings will get involved. The Steelers screwed this one up. Again.

According to ESPN, the Jets plan to designate ARod as a post June 1st release. So....2 more months of this?

The humbling has to come at some point, keep the facade going if they wish, but somewhere along the road Colbert lost it (interest, focus, whatever), MT never truly had it, Ben got old and the cracks became a sieve. Omar has had a couple decent drafts, and gaffes as well. Throw everyone from the top down into the melting pot and we get this.

I don't think 'tank' is in the vocabulary, in reality you can't construct a scenario with 53 players who are trying to do their best and make a living, same with coaching staff, that they will throw it away for someone else's future. That said, there is reality. You look at what you have, who you have, who is available and where you are at.

It like they are playing a game of chess with themselves. There seems to be no real recognition of where we truly are, and a stagnated hope that we can get to the promised land without a blueprint. I like Omar from some perspective, but wonder if Weidel would have been the better GM pick from the beginning. Build the lines, path to success 101.
