I had my sleeves rolled up coming into this thread expecting some replies like that. To my surprise there hasn't been an obnoxious reply yet!

I am with you on this one T.E. I just can not say enough about what Smith meant to this team. This story and the video say more than I ever could. I wish they could have given him one more year to go out how he wanted to and not cut short by injury.

You can order individual copies through the mail. That's what I did with the Super Bowl editions for SB XL and XLIII. I have the original Monday morning Trib and Post-Gazette for each of those victories.

This is why I love being a Steeler fan. The organization not only has great players but great people as well. Pittsburgh is lucky to have a good man like that become a permanent part of the community. Thank you Aaron Smith.

I only wished he had a twitter account, I would definitely follow him for sure. He doesn't seem to be the kind to do that though.

    God Bless you Aaron!!!

    I totally agree!!
Aaron Smith is not my favorite player of all time, There's so many on that favorite list its hard to name any one player but I'll say this, He is in the top 5 for sure. I have loved watching him play, usually when I re-watch games on the dvr to see who's doing what .
Great Player-Great Teammate- but most importantly it seems he's a GREAT Man/husband/father.

Thank You Aaron Smith and just know Steeler Nation loves you and is Praying for Elijah and your family.

If Aaron turns out not to be a HOF player (an honor I believe he deserves) that in itself is a travesty. However he has always been a HOF human being!!
Best wishes to you and your family Mr. Smith.

To the STEELERS front office....I know you have retired (officially) only one number in franchise history. If Mr. Smith can not be the second... please DO NOT reissue his number. He deserves that much!!

#91 will ALWAYS be Aaron Smith.....

It won't happen, and it will be a travesty, but it won't be a surprise. :( The Hall of Fame voting is a little better than the Pro Bowl voting, but it still doesn't know what it's doing half the time.

It would be nice if they could "unofficially" retire his number like they've done for some guys, at least for 20 years or so. Not in the mood to see another #91 anytime soon.

He'd have Peter King on his side, but I doubt he'd have enough juice to get in. Does he deserve it? Absolutely. But 3-4 DLinemen rarely get any credit because they don't have the fancy stats.

He'll be in the Great Hall HOF almost immediately. Little comfort maybe, but at the very least, he does belong there.

Is it a stretch for me to think A Smith is one of the most underated def players of his era?

Great story and a great man. We'll miss having "Jethro" on the team. Wish he and his family well.

FYI, for those that know about the evaluations I'm doing... I just finished the Houston game, which was the last of Smith's career. He graded out extremely well, finishing with 7 positive plays registered and only one negative, with a splash factor of 6 and an overall score of +9. That sounds like gibberish, but when I explain how it works it should make better sense. He had a terrific game.

In fact, he made tackles his final two plays in the NFL. His final play (where I suppose he got injured) was a crafty veteran "Oops, I got knocked down and so naturally my legs flew up and the running back accidently tripped over them" play :lolol: Awesome stuff.

I forgot to mention: on the Texans' very next running play after converting the 3rd down through the air, Foster scored that long 40+ yard TD. He did so because a couple of guys made mistakes, the biggest of which was Chris Hoke, who had come in to replace Aaron Smith at LDE. Hoke jumped ahead to try and get to the far side of the field, where Foster was running, and then Foster cut back behind him. The lane was big enough to drive a smart car through. I doubt Smith would have made the same mistake. But who knows, maybe Ziggy or Heyward also would have stopped it. Hoke was playing out of position.

Still, you gotta wonder if we'd have won if Smith hadn't gotten hurt. He'd already made at least one play to keep us in the game earlier. Sounds like much ado about nothing, but all season people were talking about the guy like he was washed up and useless. I want them to know he was still good, all the way to the end.
