In 50 years this is saddest time, all things considered, to be a Steeler fan. Ownership who is trapped in thinking they have a great coach when what they have is a good coach who most players and media love. They believe all the Tomlin love makes him unfireable. They are are afraid to act on this obvious topped out coach who has reached his ceiling 7 or 8 years ago.
I saw somewhere that Noll had a head coaching tree of 4 or 5 and Cowher had a tree of 7 or 8. Tomlin has zero in 19 years! One sign of a good leader is they make and enable people below them in rank to excel and advance and move on to greater things. There is no evidence of that. Another sign is you get the best people you can find to be on your staff and you are not afraid of smart strong personalities working under you. There is no evidence of that. I've never felt MT ever wanted the brightest and best on his staff.
The Rooney's are afraid to start over. Take a note from the Ravens owner. It has to happen. If a team and organization ever needed to start over, it's this one.
I said on another thread, if I was Rooney, I would call my friends the Mara's and do everything I could to trade Tomlin and a 3rd or something to the Giants for their first. With all the draft capital this year and being in Pittsburgh, tremendous opportunity to start with a clean slate.
The Rooney's can't see it or don't want to see it but this franchise is begging for a new start.

Some fans think that having a down season is like some kind of death sentence for a franchise. But constructing a roster that is just good enough is more of a death sentence. Niners had a 6-11 season last year and in 2020 and were able to reset in a big way each time. Having a down year doesn't have to be looked at as some kind of black mark if you know you are working to construct a championship roster. The down years can actually accelerate that process with higher draft picks.

Like I said, fan anger is turning into apathy. A dangerous place for any sports owner. Wake a F up, Art Rooney II.

We can said the same about the steelers under Cowher.....The 2003 season was the best thing who could happen for the steelers....6-10,have a chance to draft Roethlisberger in 2004,15-1 season in 2004 and winning the super bowl in 2005

I think the Broncos, Pats and Texans are good examples of how a fallow period and good team building and coaching can contribute to long term success. All three have had tough times in recent years but are now serious postseason contenders.

I, as a fan have no interest in seeing the Steelers try to run it back with this roster once again in 2026.

Ideally they do a full coaching clear out and bring in a new staff, move on from some of the expensive veterans and bring in some hungry new players in the draft and free agency. QB is interesting. Rodgers is very unlikely to be back. Maybe they suffer a season with a Mariota / Brissett type for now.

I can’t believe that Rooney is looking at last night and thinking next year will be different. It’s time for real change.

Personally speaking, I was looking more forward to doing my usual Draft Threads by mid season as opposed to Pittsburgh making the playoffs. Messed up I know but it is the same song and dance. Only difference is that the results are now even worse than last season.

Given yesterday's results?! I was already apathetic before kickoff. I am now veering closer to full apathy sans Scouting for the foreseeable future. Until change occurs, expect more of the same.

Why expect something else at this point?!

Please, no more has been quarterbacks, Mariotta is garbage and so is Brissett. I would rather see what Howard has and win or lose with him and move forward. I am tired of this bandaid approach, we arent good, we need talent, the only to get talent is drafting sooner, scouting better, get better coaches and lastly hold players and coaches accountable for their lack of production, behavior and actions.

So, we should have tanked this year for a high draft pick? I see the difference as Cowher could develop his Players/ QB and MT/ staff is clueless. And as soon as BR departed, we haven't found a solid and sustainable franchise QB since. I remember when our O was fairly good but the D was terrible but when we had to go out and find Fitzpatrick from the Dolphins, it made a big difference. Again, he was already developed and cost us some draft capital. MT was supposed to be some Defensive genius.

As someone said we will wait until it is too late, hemming and hawing. We do not want to pay his salary for him to sit so we will waste another year next year of zero hope of really competing. Total dumpster fire in all respects. I've said it before the ownership doesn't want the backlash that will come in firing Tomlin. The media just a couple of years ago lost their **** and the rallying that occurred was ridiculous when this came up. Every one of those people are wrong period because they don't watch this team every game every year to see the obvious deficiencies that lead back to poor leadership. I've sad this countless times, Just because your players love playing for you doesn't mean that is the best thing for the organization nor does it lead to the results you want. Everyone loves working for an easy boss, but does the organization get the best results in that scenario, sometimes. REsults matter, and from locker room **** shows to poor on field decisions and performance point back to the leader. The leader relates to todays players but does that mean he gets the best out of them.

I was done with Tomlin when it came out that Troy had approached him about the different rules for Ben and AB and the story goes that Tomlin dismissed him. Even more recently Harrison had said the difference between Tomlin and Bill B was night and day. Discipline and focus on a relentless pursuit of one goal is the way not being a pal that can relate to your players. I now have got to the point that I hate him because I think he selfish and not letting the next generation take the reigns. He's made a fortune off of one Super Bowl with a veteran laden team that held themselves accountable and his rah rah was fresh and new. There is no other coach I know of that has been blown out in so many playoff games and continues to keep his job. There a plenty of minority head coaches now, so AR stop worrying about all the backlash you fear. Can this joker and get a new leadership in there to start over now.

I get that sentiment, but what happens if you put Howard in and he is ass?

They need to draft a QB with pedigree in the draft this year or next, but until then you can’t send a guy out to fail. If they think Howard is ready for the NFL then I’d be all for giving him 2026 to prove himself, but the realist in me is thinking that he fell in the draft for a reason.

Sometimes you need to look at the big picture instead to try to do what who is best for the week...And this is the problem...Even Tomlin said he is not a big picture guy

You go 3-14 and get a great draft pick to replace him. I'm tired of "winning seasons" only to be thrashed in the wildcard round. If we have to completely suck for a season or two to rebuild, then so be it. We need forward, progressive thinking in the coaching staff. Not a guy who has figured out the formula to play just conservative enough to win 9 games in the regular season and then get humiliated in the wildcard round. We have Marty Shottenheimer II. THAT is the current standard.

Do you think it's smart for the steelers to wait to make major changes until we reach the Jets level?

Great organizations that want to win don't wait until it's too late before making major changes.

I get it, but the Steelers won’t intentionally tank. Maybe it’s the best thing for them in the long term, but I can’t see them doing it.

You don’t need to let the bottom fall out entirely to get your QB either. Mahomes, Allen and Lamar were all drafted to their respective teams while they were competitive. They swung and missed with Pickett but they have to try again at some point.
