I never said that Cowher took over a "contender." But he did take over a really good team that had under-achieved. What Cowher did, that Tomlin failed to do (and I disagree with Labriola on this point), is that he brought in the coaches that would set his philosophy. Cowher had a run-first, ball-control, defensive-minded philosophy--for better or worse. That was who he was and he set that tone from the moment he took the job. He canned all of Noll's coaches except for Dick Hoak. Even Mean Joe was out of a job.

You know what it's called? I'll use the Spanish: cajones.

What Tomlin did was the opposite: he kept Cowher's key pieces, jettisoned his defensive philosophy and turned that responsibility over to LeBeau, and basically kept the ship going. It turned out all right at first. But in the long run, what it's shown is a team that has no mindset, no identity. By giving in to Ben and keeping his buddy Arians, things became clear: Ben runs the team. The coach's hold on the team was non-existent from day one. Now, I'm not sure if that means anything anymore, but I know that when I played, the coach's mindset came through in everything he did and said. There's a singular purpose. And the player buys into that mindset and purpose. Cowher lost his in 2003 and admitted it, becoming so enamored with the passing game (Maddox-Burress-Ward) that everything else suffered.

All that said, and the point I am always trying to make, is that Tomlin's road to 100 is far different than Cowher's and Noll's. The argument that Tomlin won a SB means little considering the circumstances he was handed, compared to Noll and Cowher.

Those of us critical of Tomlin are not delusional and in a crowd by ourselves: http://dkpittsburghsports.com/2016/11/13/column-talking-accountability-really-talking-one-thing/

    BTW...Merry Christmas everyone.

It takes far more cajones to recognize the situation and keep the staff and win a super bowl. Far too many young coaches make the mistake that Tomlin DIDNT make.

Your continued dismissal of a super bowl victory completely invalidates any opinion you hold on coaching.

I think Jarvis signs somewhere next year for near veteran minimum. It may even be here.

Your clarification can only be interpreted as "coaching doesn't matter".

Attempting to use your elderly status as an appeal to authority, while struggling to form a coherent sentence, is probably an approach you should avoid.

Didn't the Rooney's tell Tomlin that Lebeau had to stay? Or was that just speculation at the time? I definitely remember hearing that. I also would like to know if BA would still be here if Tomlin had his way as well or if that was a Rooney thing too.

If you use speculation to form your opinion (which the entirety of the anti-Tomlin crowd does), then your opinion is worthless.

Everything required to judge Tomlin is on the field and in the win/loss column.

I figured out you're quoting someone on my ignore list. If it's someone who can't form a simple sentence my guess is Darcrav? If so you wasting your time that guy is a troll.

I'm not speculating. I'm genuinely asking if anyone knows if that was actually true. I'm not a member of the anti-Tomlin crowd. I'm not a fanboy either though. I'm basically of the mindset that if there was another coach out there would be an instant and considerable upgrade then I would say bring him in. I'd feel the same way if Cowher or Noll were still here too. I want the absolute best for the Steelers. I also trust the Rooney's and if they feel comfortable with Tomlin here, which they obviously do, then I feel fine about having him too.

Fed Ex has a spoon and an arrow in the logo that once you see you can't unsee. Little known fact. Also I don't know that you've ever watched football so until you have watched literally every down of literally every game that has literally ever been played in the history of the game then you should really shut your mouth and go back to the kitchen and stir with your wooden spoon. Merry Christmas.

I know. I wasn't pointing to you as a speculator. Just pointing it out in general.
