From my own breakdown, the way I see it, pretty much half the teams in the league don't have a shot at the SB before the season even starts. The QB's I listed in the "Jurys's out", I really don't feel will ever amount to anything but I could see people moving Newton and Bradford out of there and into the Potential column. Even without those two, still nearly half the teams.

This is why I don't believe you give up on a proven winner, it's not as easy as some think to find that guy who will lead you to the promise land. Even out of the potential column, I'd only hitch my wagon to 2 of them, Luck and Wilson, Cutler and Stafford are real iffy, Ryan almost got there last year so I might roll the dice with him, Rivers is hot and cold.

Really, if I am a GM and building a team, I'm picking from that first column and there's not a whole lot of names on that list. Unless we catch lightning in a bottle, get used to some lean years before we find the next franchise QB. I'm sticking with Ben until things start falling off the man.

Totally agree yeah he isn't great this year but he is still above average while having to force everything. No running game short wrs that don't get much separation and always starting at his on 20 all this with a line that can't block for ****. You put Ben behind the Broncos oline and he would put up hugenumbers

That's very misleading. You can't discount the guys in the jury's out column since they may very will turn into something. Out of the QB's we know about, 2/3'rds have the ability to take their team to a SB.

But you have clearly missed my point in other threads. Ben has two SB's thanks to our defense. If not for our defense, we don't even get to the SB in 2005 or 2008, let alone win either. Ben is a good QB, but not great. Without a great defense, we are not a good enough team to be a SB contender. So what is the point of hanging onto a QB who is past his prime when we could get the same results with almost any QB in the league. Put Dalton on this team in 2005 and 2008 and we'd still win the SB those years. We also still would have lost in 2010 because our defence wasn't good enough and our offense has never been good enough to win when the defense isn't great.

Any QB except for a few can win games with a great defense, which is what Ben is and always has been. The results speak for themself, without a top defense we aren't a contender. We can get the same results with most other QB's.

Nothing misleading about it, even if you remove the last column, it's still only the first column that has made it, why do you think the same guys keep going back to the SB?

Dalton wouldn't have won, that's such a discredit to Ben, Dalton has done **** to make that claim. Defense didn't get us there, Ben did, ironic that with all the great defenses we had with Cowher, we never won a SB, enter Ben, 2 SB's and 3 trips.

You could say the exact same thing about Brady and Manning. All 3 of Bradys SB wins came when he had a really good defense behind him. For years in the Brady v Manning debate, Brady was labeled as a game manager by the Manning side. But since Brady turned into a chuck it around stat machine he hasn't won squat. Also Mannings only SB win came when he defense stepped up big time and Manning had 3 TDs to 7 INTs in the post season.

woah woah woah now do you not remember Ben throwing this team on his back in the 05 playoffs? Also that was an awesome final drive that troy lead to beat the cards after ben and the offense blew a 10 point halftime lead. How many come from behind wins does Ben have? I understand the national media ignoring Ben as he doesnt put up huge numbers all the time but for anybody that actually watches the steelers to do it is mind boggling. I want to see Dalton shrug off two lineman fake out a lber and then make a perfect throw on the run. Dalton wouldnt last two minutes behind the lines Ben has played with even back then.

Bens a great QB, we're still looking for number 5 without him. You don't reach the SB 3 times without being great, our defenses haven't been the 70's level of great, haven't been the 85 Bears level of great or the Ravens the year they won it with Dilfer. Those type defenses you can ride to a championship, the defenses Ben has won with haven't been on that level.

It is funny how gives credit to the D for Bens 2 SB wins, but won't consider the shoddy offensive line when criticizing about his turnovers. When something good happens, its not to Bens credit but someone else's. But when something bad happens, its solely on Ben.

I feel like Im discussing with Bengals fans on the ESPN boards circa 2005.

    2005

He had 2 good games out of 4 playoff games. He was at his worst when it mattered the most. If not for our defense we don't get by Indy. Ben was very good against Denver though.

    2007.

4 turnovers against Jacksonville to end our playoff run

    2008

He was just OK against San Diego. No turnovers but he didn't do much to help us win either.

Again he was just okay against Baltimore. 250 yards and 1 TD. Those are game manager numbers

Against Arizona, he did mount one of the greatest game winning drives of all time, but again, he had mediocre numbers. 1 TD, 1 INT, 250 yards. Most QB's in the league can put up those kinds of numbers

    2010

He was good but not great against Baltimore. 1 turnover, 2 TD's, a little over 200 yards. That's not good enough from a guy making $100 million.

He was terrible against the jets. More turnovers than TDs

Against GB in the SB, he had 2 TD's but also had 2 turnovers, plus he was absolutely awful in the final moments of the game. Not good enough for a franchise QB making what he does.

    2011

1 TD against Denver, but 1 INT as well. That's simply not good enough, not even close.

He has had very few great games in the playoffs in his career. All the guy does is turn the ball over. 20 TD's In 14 games is not nearly good enough, but what's even worse is his 17 INT's. If not for our running game and defense, we wouldn't have won either SB. The numbers Ben put up in the playoffs, most QB's in the league could do that.

What I do find telling though is Ben appeared to be on his way to being a top QB in the league under Cowher but has severely regressed under Tomlin. He's become a turnover machine

Great QB's don't put up numbers like Ben routinely puts up in the playoffs. It's simply not good enough, never has been. You can spin it any way you want, Ben has had 1 great game in the playoffs, thats it. The stats tell the true story, and it's that we aren't winning most games because of our $100 million QB. He has hurt us almost as much as he has helped us in the playoffs

You also are forgetting the nfl apologized to the Steelers after the Jacksonville game. Ben didn't have a great game but he brought them back and gave them the lead. If anything the defense blew it but troy p got tackled while going for the sack on 4th and long with no call.

    Cmon man!
Are you sure you're not a Bengals fan in disguise sent here to troll the board?

The Steelers were 29th...thats TWENTY NINTH...in the league in rushing in terms of YPA in 2008. You may want to rethink that statement.

Not spinning anything, fact is, we didn't start winning again until we drafted Ben, I'm not a real big believer in coincidences and the things that make Ben so great and that have helped us win so many times is the things not measured on stat sheets. You know full well Bens game isn't about numbers.

Um, why not check Peyton Mannings post season stats and pay close attention to 2006 where his rating was a stratospheric 70.5 and he threw 3 TDs to 7 INTs yet won the SB.

I was talking only about his playoff games over his career. The guy had 1 great drive against a weak defense. You can say Ben won the game for us with that game winning drive, but it was one drive. Give me a break. Where was he the rest of the game? Where was he the other playoff games in 2008, because he sure wasn't putting up much in the way of offensive stats

I'm as much a steelers fan as anyone on here, but i see ben for what he is, a good but not great QB. He will never put the team in his back and lead us to a SB win. The sooner we replace Ben the sooner we can work on finally having a great offense, because it won't happen under Ben. He's not good enough

At the end of the game, numbers are the only thing that matters. Scoring TDs wins games and turnovers usually result in losses. Ben has too many turnovers and not enough TDs.

I don't believe you do, I think your hatred of the man clouds your judgment significantly. Unfortunately, by the time you see that, me and other Steeler fans will have to sit through the crappy QB's they roll out there while looking for Bens replacement.

I put them in the columns I think they belong. Being real generous with Romo, great regular season QB but can't win big games, probably should have him in the "cant win column". RG might be able to but have to wait and see how he bounces back from that injury. I don't think Schaub will ever get to a SB. So no, doesn't change my conclusion.

Winning is the only stat that matters and thats what Ben has done, can't take that away from him no matter how hard you try. He's up at the top among come back wins, great QB's do that.
