I used to think that mike Mitchell was a good fit but, he's not a leader and definitely a hinder in the secondary rather then an upgrade

Yeah, his after the play antics have always gotten on my nerves. I've also never seen someone miss so many potential tip-drill INTs while trying to line up a sports center hit. That's gotten real old too. Like a sucker I bought into the story of him playing with two groin tears that first year, but I'm not satisfied with his play at all.

Very good summary Turtle, I have been wondering for some time why other teams
can play rookies from all rounds of the draft and they seem to be able to be respectable
yet we make execuses for ours? We need more defensive game changers. I hammered for the safety
in last years draft. Who would have displaced mitchell or had him move to the other safety position.
The defensive line has been a big disappointment.

I agree with a lot of the posts here, I think we have never found a replacement for Casey to plug the middle. I know some here were fans of McClendon I was not and now McCullers is the latest who don't look good there. All you have to do is watch the last TD run last week and see where he started and where he ended up. A guy his size should not be able to be moved that easy.

Also our safeties have need bad and it just hasn't been this year. Troy and Clark were the glue to this defense for years and we brought in Mitchell to help but has been going backwards each year. Add in that we are struggling to find a guy to fill that void. Shark hasn't panned out and I feel Golden is more of a back up then starter. Lets hope Davis pans out cause we need 2 guys as I feel Mitchell is washed up.

Pressure pressure pressure....not sure what is going on here, how did we go from top 5 in sacks to this??? This is where I have to wonder about scheme, are we a 3-4 or 4-3 and who is responsible for drafting these guys to play in our system? Injuries have been an issue this year but watching Shazier play I feel he is more of an OLB then an ILB since he gets taken out a lot on run plays. Chick is coming along but has he maxed out with talent. I think I don't need to talk about JJ so much has been said here already about him.

Now when you go back and look at the drafts from 2009-2013 yeah we got studs like AB and Beachum late and stars like Heyward, Bell, DD and Pouncey but is that enough to be called successful? That brings me to another point, how come no matter who we draft at WR they end up working out? Or how about the last few years we are finding value in the late rounds or FA on the oline? I feel something is going on with the guys we are draft or signing on the defensive side of the ball which isn't working out on the field. I have no clue what is the problem, position coaches, head coach or GM....whatever it is it isn't working and I feel scheme is the problem.

I have no numbers to back up any of this but this is just what I am seeing as a fan and is my opinion. I am not saying fire Tomlin or Colbert I am just trying to figure out why we have become the soft defense that we are today. For the record I like the youth we have right now in Dupree, Burnes, Davis, Cockrell and Matakevich!
