Without Watt we are the worst team getting sacks and with him probably the best. Not sure if that’s a good or bad thing lol.

6 games and still haven’t amounted to the total of week 1… combined

Highsmith is good so teams are keying on him. Reed is too green... there's a big dropoff in talent after Watt/Highsmith. The DEs are getting more sacks than the OLBs.

Watt is a HOF'r like OLB. You remove him and you have a HUGE step down. there is no Plan B behind a guy like him. and then yes, the attention slides to Highsmith.

Isn't Alex Highsmith supposedly leading the NFL in sacks so this season?

He was, but I believe he is fourth now. Reed and the other outside linebackers playing on the strong side can't win and every opponent knows it.

The is is true but with Watt the D line comes crashing down almost instantly on some plays

He was literally sacked in every other game this season, except vs the Steelers. This includes the two games that he left early due to injury after throwing about a dozen passes.

True, though they had been missing their left tackle and he returned for the game against the Steelers.

That said, people need to stop with the excuses. The only time they got consistent pressure on a quarterback without Watt was the victory over the Bucs. Opposing quarterbacks have had far too much time to pick the defense apart this year.

But we over paid Watt and should trade him

    I’m confused

    Just a thought

Was the long term signing of Watt a mistake

Do you build a consistent strong defense that is so highly dependent on one player who might get hurt

That is the price of having dominant players. Isn't it better to try to build a defense with Watt than without him?

The alternative was hoping he didn't hold out during the regular season, and if he didn't, then they would have to let the DPOY walk. Do you want the Steelers to become the Pirates? :hehehe:

I'm half-kidding about that last part, though I'm sure some fans would have seriously made the comparison. More seriously, the Steelers knew they would have a cheap quarterback for a few years. They may not have known it would be Trubisky, but they likely already planned to sign a cheap stopgap and then draft their next long-term quarterback. They have Pickett on his rookie deal for four years, which takes them through the final year of Watt's contract. They can also buy out that final year with a dead-money cap hit under $10 million.

On this, I trust Khan's cap expertise.

Even being "picked apart" the defense only gave up 16 points. They dropped two catchable INTs and had opportunities to catch two more INTs.

Sacks are one of the most overrated stats in football.

They are big plays and they often reflect consistent pressure, which is vital. The Steelers have gotten consistent pressure on the quarterback in two games this season. Those were the two games they won.

Also, they had more than two catchable interception opportunities. The two Wallace dropped weren't easy, but you would like to see him hang on to at least one of those. The ones by Sutton and Edmunds were easy. Those were drops.

I'm sure the Bears will want multiple high picks for him, he's also looking for a new contract next year.

I don't see teams doing anything special to stop Highsmith, half the time he gets near the QB he whiffs on the tackle.

Patriots didn't need any kind of payback and they beat the Steelers. Steelers have been owned by the Patriots since 2001. Steelers haven't won in Philadelphia since the 60's. With the exception of the Browns and Bengals.... Steelers haven't dominated anybody since the 00's.

I believe We are 6, or 7 wins out of 9, or 10 games against KC since the 2000s until they got P. Mahomes.
