#4 pick won't be enough to fix this mess. We need Top 2.

Not sure but I think we got Crosby because of a coin toss. Pens didn't tank as much as plain sucked. I think coin tosses have worked out well for Pittsburgh sports except the Thanksgiving day screw up for the Bus in Detroit.

 

The draft is as much luck as it is draft position. Re-draft 2004 and Big Ben is not the #11 pick overall. Re-draft 2017 and TJ Watt is not the #30 pick overall. The challenge is drafting good players and developing players that are coached up. Football is the most coach impacted sport of the four major sports. The 2022 Steelers have good players, but their depth has issues, either it is devoid of talent or devoid of great coaching.

If I remember right, there were numbered balls, and it was done similar to the way the Pa. state daily number is drawn. The Pens were lucky enough to get the first pick. the rest, as they say, is history.

Tanking is stupid. People who don't watch the draft a decade later don't realize it's about picking a team. There's a reason why for 50 years we have been dominate, and being in the top 10 draft is rarely done by us.

the Steelers don't tank. We're just a LT, LG, a buck at ILB, and a competent OC away from getting back to the playoffs. Get a NT and another OLB the next season and more experience for Pickett and were contending (2024)

Pickett is the next franchise QB - I may be wrong but i doubt it. I will admit it if I do turn out to be wrong.

 

OC for sure, maybe take a hard look at DC too this offseason. HC - revisit how the Steelers are doing next season

 

The Steelers won’t finish with a top-2 pick. Given the weak second-half schedule I’m not even sure they’ll finish with a top-10 pick.

A new OC and an offense with more experience will do more to fix the team’s issues than a couple of draft picks.

trading talent for picks is risky. you're definitely losing talent and not definitely gaining talent.

Cincinnati Bengals had 41 draft picks in the 1968 draft. they still sucked.

 

Wrong. We need to address o-line, d-line, LBs, and secondary.

see what the second half of the season brings before we commit to a certain position to draft. we have holes but we must see how big and what position will make the most difference at that point.

 

We play some bottom feeders in the next few weeks. We'll see how average or bad this team is.

Nah, I didn’t go into the season or two games in want a tank. The cards fell where they did and you can’t give me any good reasons moving forward why they should win anymore games this year.

Ben is gone. We can’t plug middle of the line draft talent and FAs. Go 8-8-1 and run around and celebrate a Tomlin Super Bowl anymore. It’s not happening.

We need more draft picks and higher quality to potentially fix this mess.

I like DK Sports' take on this. Tanking to get a top 5 pick makes no sense. It means the team stinks to high heaven and there are many more holes to fill than you get in the draft. It's better to keep developing the players and minimize the amount of turnover you need. Free agency and the draft can fill 3 or 4 positions at best. If you get two quality starters in a draft class and two free agent starters, that's about as good as it gets unless you unload a dump truck of money in free agency.
