I'm amazed at how these athletes are held to a different standard than anyone else. I think Simpson was busted with a total of like 10 pounds of weed... It was obvious that he's part of a pretty big operation to sell the stuff.

He pleads guilty and does 2 weeks in jail and got a 3 game suspension. Isn't that a felony? He pleads guilty and his suspension is less than Ben's, who was never convicted of anything?

Crazy. I guess Kentucky is the place to go if you want to traffic marijuana. That's gotta be the sweetest plea agreement I've ever heard of.

Yep - Roger Goodell is still a joke

    http://www.local12.com/news/local/story ... U847Q.cspx

Big Ben was suspended for 4 games and convicted of nothing.

Jerome Simpson gets caught with multiple pounds of marijuana with scales and baggies, pleads guilty, spends time in jail and gets only a 3 game suspension.

It would be nice if old Roger would be consistent just one time.

Bob Kraft could go on a murder spree and would probably be complimented.

I hated the suspension that Ben got and I'm not a Goodell fan at all but I think that suspension was the best thing to ever happen to Ben. He's been a totally different guy since then, everyone who covers him says he's back to the guy he was when he came into the league. It's obvious to me that success went to his head and he started having a God complex. That Georgia incident and subsequent suspension knocked him back down to earth. Glad the light went on for him. Maybe thats what Goodell was hoping for with that over the top suspension.

Just a quick extra point: not only was Ben not convicted, he was never so much as charged. They didn't even have enough cause to file charges.

Now, I'm not saying Ben didn't deserve his suspension. All things considered, he needed a reality check. But yeah... consistency, Roger?

On one hand someone says athletes get preferential treatment, and then you guys talk about how Ben wasn't charged or convicted. If you look at the facts of the cases involving Ben (at least the facts that have been made public) it seems obvious to me that Ben probably would have been charged if not for him being an athlete. I work in the law enforcement field and have a ton of friends who are cops, a few who are lawyers, etc. There was definitely enough evidence for Ben to be charged and I'm surprised he wasn't. Whether he would have been convicted is a different story, but I believe the only reason he wasn't charged is because of who he is. Being able to afford very high priced lawyers also helps.

Besides, there's a big difference between multiple sexual assault complaints from multiple people, plus all the other crap Ben was doing, and selling weed. There's a big, big difference. You guys all have a problem with that suspension, but the fact is, Rooney considered trading Ben and said as much, so just maybe Ben was deserving of that suspension. After all, nobody came to his defence and he didn't even come to his own defence. Instead, he admitted he needed to make a lot of changes to be a better person. Whether he sexually assaulted those girls or not, we'll never know, but the guy was out of control and treated everyone like crap, including teammates.

If he could have been charged and wasn't, then they should all lose their jobs. Yeah, he might have had pricey lawyers and won a court case anyway. You still do your job.

And I had no problem with his punishment. Had it been even more severe, I don't think I would have had a problem with that either.

But DEALING drugs is kind of a big deal too. Nobody walks around with that much for their own personal use. Again, not complaining about Ben. Complaining about the lack of consistency.

Please, "treating people like crap" is a crime now? We should suspend every person from their jobs for this. It's done he was suspended and is "supposedly" a better man. Blah, blah, blah. Sell me some more swampland in Fla. Jimmy Smith was a respected Deacon and never would be caught DUI or with an addiction.

I'll state again, I've had to take a few of my guys through some "allegations" similar to Ben's and they've all not been charged either. I think being a low E-2 in the Navy qualifies as not being a star athlete. I absolutely refuse to hook-up at bars anymore because any kind of impairment is considered assault, whether or not both parties are impaired. Things change and people need to adapt to the new realities. We made Girls Gone Wild millions promoting this behavior now we string up the children of our mistakes.

Now you have someone that gets caught with that much on them and gets a smaller suspension?

No, Ben didn't get charged because there wasn't any proof except a complaint by a liquored up girl. I'll tell you what happened, girl follows Ben around all night, girl flirts with Ben all night, Ben takes girl into the bathroom, girl gets scared and has second thoughts and wants to stop, Ben the drunken boor he is doesn't want to, gets a little rough, girl falls or Ben pushes her, girl leaves and tells friends, girl goes and tells a cop. That's what I believe happened. If Ben raped that girl, not a chance in the world he wouldn't have gone to prison. That sheriff was itching to charge Ben. Since you are in law enforcement, maybe you can tell me how you rape someone and not leave any DNA behind? I want to know, because it seems obvious to me he would be in jail if he had. Bens an athlete yes, but he's not OJ Simpson, he's Ben Roethlisberger, he's NOT that big of star power. Vick went to prison for operating a dog fighting ring, you really think Ben isn't going to prison for rape if they had enough evidence.
