I see Ben has thrown the ball more than at anytime in his career over the last 4 years he threw it 608 times in 2014, in 2013 he had 584 attempts, he threw it less in 2015 only 469 attempts mainly because he missed 4 games, he didnt play in two games 2016, and he still had 509 attempts, and with new targets bryant and schuster he will probably throw it 600 plus times this year......

I'm actually ok with the WR in 2nd. At first I was a bit surprised how high we picked one, but we do have several WR's that will be out of contract soon (Ayers, Bryant, Hamilton) and we all know it usually takes a year or two for wide outs to develop.

I'd be happy if this "loaded WR core" narrative ended.

The Steelers do not have a "loaded WR core", they have a deep WR group... that's it. It's not loaded, and the core is very much unknown at this point.

Bryant's career could be over on any given day
Eli Rogers has 48 career receptions, as an undrafted slot only WR
Sammie Coates is coming off groin surgery, and has fingers that are "mangled like an offensive linemen".
Justin Hunter is a bust, and on his 4th team in 5 years with a measely 10 receptions last year.
DHB is a reliable special teamer and a depth WR
    Cobi Hamilton is roster depth

It looks great on paper, and it is very good depth... but the idea that we have some loaded WR corp is bonkers

JuJu may very well be the 2nd best WR on the roster, he's certainly in the top 3 in terms of talent.

We have AB, a big question mark in Bryant, and then some nice depth spread across different role types.

JuJu living up to his potential and Bryant putting in a full season, would give us a loaded WR corp going forward.

I'm sorry but you can't debate facts and statistics.

Before we drafted Juju, on paper, we had arguably had the #1 WR group in the NFL. Name one that is better. Sure Bryant's career could be over. Or maybe he plays another 8 years. Who knows. Anyone's career could be over on any given play due to injury. Can't predict the future.

Yes Martavis is on a short leash. More like the end of his leash. Look at his production when he is on the field. Including the playoffs, he averaged 65 yards and 0.67 TDs per game. I know you don't like the term, but go find me another #2 WR putting up that type of production.

So along with Bryant, we have AB, arguably the best WR in the game. He has been averaging over 120 receptions per year over the last 4 years.

Leveon Bell missed 4 games last year and still caught 75 balls. 3 years ago he caughr over 80. Yes he's a RB, but he makes up a huge part of our receiving game.

Dump on Eli Rogers if you wish, but he's not going anywhere. The team really liked him 2 years ago before he got hurt. Last year as a rookie, he caught almost 50 balls and his trajectory is only going up. Who cares if he was undrafted? Did you make a similar argument about AB after his rookie season because he was a lowly 6th round pick?

TEs accounted for almost 70 more receptions.

The rest of the WRs and RBs had another 65.

He may be Big Ben, but there's only so many balls to go around.

Yes I wasn't a big fan of taking a WR in Round 2. For the same reason I didnt want a DE early.

Juju is a good player. I'm not taking that away from him. I think I do hold some concerns why he wasn't able to beat good secondaries last year but that won't be an issue in Pittsburgh as he will probably be going against a teams #3 or #4 CB. He should win alot of those battles.

I'm just trying to temper expectations because I don't want there to be a clamouring of disappointment if JuJu only catches 20 or 25 balls this year. It's nothing against his talent, just the situation he is coming into.

It could happen, but setting an expectation that JuJu is going to catch 40-50 balls this year is unreasonable.

After AB and Bryant, I'm predicting JuJu will be the biggest piece of the receiving corpse.

I don't see Rogers getting in the way of that. I've never been on the Rogers train. Nice player thats regulated to the slot. JuJu can play the slot, AB can play the slot, variety is the flavor Tomlin likes. Rogers should be worried about his position on the team. Certainly his playing time, anyway.

Even Ayers can play inside and out. Before the JuJu, pick, I thought Ayers could push Rogers for playing time this year. His playing speed looks great to me, looks really good with the ball in his hands. Eli doesn't offer a lot YAC, AB, Bryant, JuJu all do and Ayers if he continues to impress. So you got Rogers, who doesn't play outside, doesn't offer much in the way of YAC fighting for playing time against players who are more versatile. Doesn't bode well.

His 48 receptions was a product of not having anyone else after AB. That won't be the case this year.

I'm already laughing... is the rest of this post going to be your attempt to turn a subjective label into something that can be validated as a fact? Oh boy... this is gonna be fun

Is it arguable, or is it a fact... i'm already confused.

Name one player... who came back from a year long substance abuse suspension, and was a major difference maker the rest of his career...

You sound like Browns fans who were counting a Josh Gordon's return. The only difference between Gordon and Blackmon and Martavis Bryant, right now... is time.

    Thanks for the AB stats

Oh, so you are going to insert a RB in to the debate where you are going to factually show that we have a "loaded WR core"... i knew there were more chuckles coming...

Someone had to catch balls with Martavis suspended and Wheaton on IR.
I like Eli Rogers... he's also the most overrated player on the team (by the fans).

yup... now we've added TEs to the "Loaded WR Corp" debate....

That's silly, is Stephon Tuitt coming off a year long suspension and ridiculously susceptible to being lost for the year again?

yea, you're right... he'll be contributing.

    Thanks for looking out...

Who is setting that expection? Looks like it's you...

    I'll wait for pre-season.

Calling them a "loaded WR core" is just ignoring the simple facts.

Simple Fact #1 - No one should have any confidence in Martavis Bryant. It's a bonus if he actually plays all year
Simple Fact #2 - The Steelers lost their #2 WR (Wheaton) and despite all his flaws he was the most experienced player opposite AB
Simple Fact #3 - Coates has serious injury concerns for a WR, and has never demonstrated much capability beyond running a go route
Simple Fact #4 - Eli Rogers is strictly a slot WR (and a specific type of slot WR at that)
Simple Fact #5 - DHB and Hunter are depth role players, they don't contribute to the "loaded core" description
Simple Fact #6 - Hamilton and Ayers are practice squad level players until they prove otherwise

That's facts amount to a label of "deep" not "loaded". There is no such thing as a loaded WR core, when there is such an obvious question marks among the group.

The simplest fact is that the addition of JuJu gives us a greater chance of actually being loaded at the position.

I'm fairly certain if we were loaded with talent at WR, we wouldn't have drafted one.

That's funny they had JuJu as a 4.4 guy not even close, and he will start right away and be the #1 WR on the team not in Pittsburgh he won't.

Couldn't have said it any better than that.:drinks: Only so many footballs to go around
Somebody in the WR corps has got to go.People it is not the player that concerns me @ #2
He is a very good ball player, we needed help in the secondary in that round to better compete
    with the Pats.

He was a first round talent for the enitrety of 2016 I thought.

The only reason so many docked him was due to his lack of speed in addition to the "scheme only" title he undeservingly received.

He is a discount Mike Williams. Two inches shorter and slower but just as good in everything minus blocking where Schuster far exceeds anyone from this draft.

Heck, he might be the best blocking wide receiver to come out of college in years as well.

Loved the pick when it was made then and my opinions have not changed. To me, the whole "30 points per game" goal seems more within reach now than it did a season ago.

Thank the competition committee and Bill Belichick for that one.

Committee makes rules for league fairness, balance and safety for the inprovement of the game... only for Bill to tactically and strategically exploit the advantages of each one of them. :lolol:

Pretty close to that last year if you remove some clunkers due to Ben and Bell missing games. And that was without Bryant all year, too.

If everyone is here this season, the offense should perform like a Hemi.

Indeed. Hopefully consistency and luck yields their rewards for us. Availability is key.
