2026 Pittsburgh Pirates

This season will be a "what if" season for me. Yes, the bullpen has been a disaster. The staring pitching a huge disappointment. Hitting with RISP mostly embarrassing.
But with all of that said, I have to defend the Pirates in this regard. The injuries have been brutal. Sometimes injuries are the reason and not an excuse. And I do believe this ... if Cruz and Griffin had been healthy the entire season, the Pirates would currently be in playoff position. And let's not forget O'Hearn & Horwitz both out a month.

Healthy, this is a good Pirate team. I believe we would have been in the Playoffs and with Ashcraft and Skenes (sucked against Tigers) with his sh!t together we could have made some noise.

Wow - a walk off by Lowe against the ex Dodger reliever Jansen. Love it! Lowe has 27 HRs and they're talking about letting him walk after this season. That really sucks. Very average BA but those homers are great! Bucs win another series against the AL. Awesome. Unfortunately nobody is stopping the Brewers, Cubs and probably Cards. Let's go and shock the La La Brooklyn Bums.

Weird stat of the day - Rafael Flores' 2 HRs after he replaced Davis (HBP) is the only time this has been done by a Pirate non-starter since before 1900! Bucs just picked up veteran catcher Christian Bethancourt from the Yanks right after Davis left the game with a hand injury. The way Flores came on strong will Henry Davis become the next Wally Pittman? Fat chance unless they cut him at some point but even Davis can't seem to help Skenes this year. Flores is a big dude for a catcher - 6-3, 230lbs. Finally a catcher with some pop in his bat. Davis is an awesome defensive catcher but all those wasted ABs are killers.

 

The homer was the 27th this season for Lowe, the most in club history by a second baseman. It was the 83rd this year by the Pirates at PNC Park, the most at the venue since it opened in 2001.

All I've read is that initial x rays were negative but after Cruz and Griffin's hand injuries, wouldn't surprise me. Endy is still woozy from getting hit in the head a few days ago so Bethancourt is just an insurance measure for now.
