Yeah, I don't know if that gold glove justifies a roster spot at this point. His bat is such a liability, picking up where he left off last year. Of course they have nobody else to go to really.

If you build it they will come. 36,893 for the home opener. So much for fans being disgusted.

Realistically, if fans only showed up when their teams were true contenders there would not be sports. 30 teams in MLB and realistically only 5-6 have a shot.

Great Hat Trick for Crosby today. 3rd goal was an empty netter but he took the shot from right in front of our net. Pens played a good game.

Oh wait, this is the Pirate thread. They still suck.

Good news - at least the Bucs are back to their 4 runs a game again. Bad news - Yanks are averaging 10 runs a game so far.

Did he falter or was he torpedoed by the torpedo bats?

Heany did an amazing job today. Needless to say the BP let the Yankees tie it up.

They did everything they could to lose that game. And Tommy Pham, a guy who is quickly becoming my new Pat Meares, comes through with a walk off flyball.

Pirates called up Tsung-Che Cheng, middle infielder, from Indy and put Triolo on the injured list. Cheng only has about 35 plate appearances at AAA. I think Cherrington and Shelton are coming to the end of the line and are starting to throw Hail Marys. These are unusual moves compared to those of recent years. They never used to start the Major League service clock this early.
Next thing you know they will sign a free agent to a contract longer than a year.

Cardinals ain't nothing special. Maybe the Bucs can go on a mini win streak. Idiot Shelton decides to sit Reynolds tonight.

Little over 8,000 last night. If Skenes was not pitching tonight I'd say they wouldn't get 4,000. Gonna be a winter night in the Burgh. Bright side it will be advantages for Skenes.

For the 4 of us here - found some interesting Google responses to how the Nutting family (primarily Bob) made their/his money (you die-hearts already know most of this I assume):

"How did Robert Nutting make his money?

Bob Nutting made his money in the newspaper industry (his grandfather started in the business in 1890). He was rich enough to buy a professional baseball team. That doesn't mean he is smart enough to run one."

"What does the Nutting family own?

Robert Nutting (born March 29, 1962) is an American businessman and sports team owner. Since 2007, he has been the principal owner and chairman of the board of the Pittsburgh Pirates of Major League Baseball. His other business activities include serving as president & CEO of Ogden Newspapers Inc and owner of resorts, whiskey plants and other companies." (Note - In December 2021, Bob Nutting, who also owns the Pittsburgh Pirates, sold Seven Springs Mountain Resort, Hidden Valley Resort, and Laurel Mountain Ski Area to Vail Resorts).

"The Nutting family purchased the Pittsburgh Pirates franchise in 1996 for $92 million.
    Here's a more detailed breakdown:
    • Purchase Price: $92 million
    • Year of Purchase: 1996
    • Current Owner: The Nutting family
    • Current Valuation: In 2024, the Pirates had an estimated value of $1.32 billion"
"How much is the Nutting family worth?

According to Wealth-X, the net worth of Nutting and his family comes to $1.1 billion, with a majority ($630 million) arising from their ownership of Ogden Newspapers, which owns papers in 13 states, according to the company's website."

So then it was not the Nutting's who started the nightmare in 1993. They sure the hell added to it. I'll give him the whiskey plants but he can suck it on the rest.

Attendance last 4 home games Paul Skenes has pitched
    August 22 16,635; August 28 12,660; September 9 10,311; Tonight: 8291

The "SELL THE TEAM" chant was pretty loud for 8,000 fans.

Skenes not a cold weather pitcher.

SELL THE TEAM Love the chant but if Nutting's sold I'm guessing the "Pittsburgh" Pirates would no longer exist.
