It's this new era of MLB. They did research and noticed that only a rare few can throw ton of pitches year after year. (Nolan Ryan) A lot burned out early because of overuse. Thus in today's MLB they just want the starter to go 6-7 innings. And watch that pitch count. That's fine and dandy for the money teams but we got this guy 3 maybe only 2 if Nutbag sees money. Use his damn arm for the next 2 years. He'll be strong for another 8-9 years for sure regardless.

I think Bednar is due back but they will probably wait till after ASG. Jones is long term. Next year are staff looks good. I hope Bobby boy spends a tad to at least get us over .500 and maybe shot at Playoffs. Memory shaky but I was at a Buc/White Sox game the year after they won the World Series. At PNC and I'm stuck around their fans. Guy was telling me their staff was young guns and just took over in the Playoffs. Ridiculous numbers shutting other team down. He said their bats were nothing special??? Dreaming that for the Bucs.

With the pitch count Skenes racks up (ditto Jones), not sure he'll ever get to pitch a complete game. So impressive nonetheless.

Chapman apparently has the Brewers number - only one guy in their lineup ever had a hit against him and today that continued. :hmm:

Here is the scenario: Bucs need to beat the Yankees last game of season to make Playoffs. (a NL team should never close a season against an AL team) Bucs up a run and El Chapo comes in and gives up a 2 run shot and we miss Playoffs.

You didn't think you'd have a happy ending with the Bucs did you? And not that kind of happy ending.:sneak:

Bednar doesnt come off IR until 19 July. Just got off phone with my uncle who lives in Pittsburgh, said Pirates will have Skenes for 3 to 5 years. Once again ?uck the pitch count. If a player feels fine let em go. Explain why bullpen pitchers get hurt? No where near their magical pitch count.

Skenes pitched a 120 pitch game for LSU last season. Pirates organization should be ashamed of what they did today. Totally classless. Kid had a chance to make history today, yet the Pirates being the Pirates got in the way of it.

Once again, even with pitchers under the mlb law of the pitch count, injuries to pitchers are up an alarming rate this season

Pitch counts matter in youth sports where they are not fully developed yet, this i agree with. Complete and utter bull**** in mlb. Injuries are still way up in pitchers.

Im sorry but not sorry! Just so pissed about the decision Pirates made today. Not only the no no but Skenes gave u the best chance to win. That bullpen is hazardous

Well 3 games under going to Chi Town. South side. Not having a good year but any given game. 2 afternoon games. Bucs will open with a guy I thought should have made ASG, TBD. For game 2 we will throw out Ortiz and game 3 Mitch Keller, who IMO should have made ASG, not Skenes. To new to the game for the honor which has diminished with fan voting. Sure he'll see many more.

If the game was at home on a Friday, I bet the call would have come down from the owner’s box to leave him in.

Skenes no where near Bens rookie season! An impressive start by Skenes, no doubt. Still pissed they pulled him today.

For me Big Ben the least impressive. Steelers had a great team around him. Crosby came to a crap team and turned them around. Skenes is on a crap team, will be on a crap team until the money teams take him away.

True. Nobody knows why. Some blame the pitch clock, others say that more pitchers are throwing harder than ever and are close to the human limit, which is a bit over 100mph. I remember the average major league fastball being 88 when radar guns came in to use.
Over a third of pitchers have TJ surgery now. Maybe they should use a ligament from the leg to get one that is stronger!
