That’s not as big an increase as I was expecting and that’s if it comes in at 208, it could be less.

So if the cap number comes in at 208 mil, does anyone know where that puts the Steelers for 2022?

We're way below that number. About 75 million I believe. But TJ and Minkah will eat up a large part of that.

Why would these clowns agree to such a low number when they know the cap was reduced in 2021 because of covid?

NFL players union is the weakest in sports

They're not letting him play his last year and then risk hitting free agency.

$15.9M in 2022 dead money for Ben and JuJu's voidable years if neither is re-signed within five days of the Super Bowl.

Anyone else have voidable years starting in 2022?

Eric Ebron also has a voided year, about $4m, so $20m total with Ben & Juju

They are in quite a good place, they should have money for a good free agent or two, they will almost certainly need a Corner

According to over the cap Ben’s dead money for 2022 is 10.3 million. Not sure how it all plays out with voidable years though.

Or they could franchise tag him, he won't hit free agency.

Ben is $10.3M, JuJu $5.6M. If they don't win the Super Bowl this year, this is a nice chunk of change that could have gone to the rebuild.

We will need all draft capital/ salary cap to land the new QB (Sam Howell) and to pay our FA's
and players we want to keep.

That’s because his extension technically runs for several years, but when he goes, all of those dollars will be accelerated to the year of his departure for cap purposes.

Thanks for the info. You’re always on top of this cab stuff. Those voidable years just adds another dimension to the salary cap.

They're not letting Watt play out the year without a new deal, look for it to come around the time camp starts or shortly after. Gonna be a blockbuster.

That only happens if they're far apart of the extension, as they were apparently with Bell.

Those are the voidable years. If he isn't resigned within five days of the Super Bowl, they accelerate and the contract terminates. This is just the latest accounting trick teams are using to get around the cap.

Here's an explanation of JuJu's similar deal:
