I tend to do a lot of these and tend to find that over time as the offseason goes on and we get closer to the draft, that I find guys I really like in the mid rounds, but this is one of my early shots.

    Thoughts?

    24: R1 P24 OT Alex Leatherwood - Alabama
    55: R2 P23 C Creed Humphrey - Oklahoma
    87: R3 P23 RB Javonte Williams - North Carolina
    125: R4 P23 S Richard LeCounte III - Georgia
    138: R4 P36 DL Bobby Brown III - Texas A&M
    207: R6 P28 C/G Michal Menet - Penn State
    240: R7 P18 WR Rico Bussey Jr. - Hawaii
    249: R7 P27 LB Max Richardson - Boston College

    My rationale for each pick...

    24: R1 P24 OT Alex Leatherwood - Alabama = AV Replacement.

    55: R2 P23 C Creed Humphrey - Oklahoma = Pouncey Replacement.

    87: R3 P23 RB Javonte Williams - North Carolina = Conner Replacement.

125: R4 P23 S Richard LeCounte III - Georgia = Davis Replacement. Could be eventual starter and will push Edmunds.

138: R4 P36 DL Bobby Brown III - Texas A&M = Interior DL. Here to backup AluAlu.

207: R6 P28 C Michal Menet - Penn State = He played C at PSU, but also played G. Provides game day depth on the interior. Plays behind Humphrey, but also Decastro and Dotson. He is the 14th ranked C/G by one board I read and you are getting him in the 6th round.

240: R7 P18 WR Rico Bussey Jr. - Hawaii = Look its a seventh round prospect for WR. If JuJu leaves I want someone in the pipeline. It's a gamble.

249: R7 P27 LB Max Richardson - Boston College = Best player available yet on mock draft site at a position of need.

UDFA spots with potential to make roster....

WR....I took one late, but there will be an opening.

TE....Didn't draft one. Vance is gone and our depth right now isn't good. The competition isn't that great either. Ebron makes the roster....everyone else can be beat out.

QB....If Ben retires this is even greater, but Haskins could screw up or just be bad. A determined UDFA could make the roster.

EDGE....There are our starters and then basically no one. We have had UDFAs make the roster here before.

ILB...I drafted one and expect Spillane back, but UG3 isn't a solution IMO. Allen isn't a solution and Brooks, I'm not sure about yet. There is a spot or 2 potentially available for someone who impresses.

CB...If we waive Haden or don't resign Sutton or Hilton there is a spot here. Layne is a no go special teamer only. Pierre I like and he making the team shows the team is not opposed to this position being a UDFA.

P....come on, can we finally give this guy some competition?

Whenever I see Banks round 4, thats my autopick. Jamie Newman probably won’t make it to the 5th round.

I agree that I’d love Freiermuth. Heard he’s a good blocker too

I went on the premise that bush returns healthy and we retain Williamson and Spillane, along with Layne stepping up and Sutton or Hilton being retained, and then went BPA

If Trey Lance is there in the 1st, i think that's a no-brainer.

No way he does. This simulator I do has him falling to 24 at least half the time. That makes it boring, because he is my auto pick there no questions asked

I’d lose my mind. Between Bush and Jeremiah, Bush would be the thumper but BOTH would be quite lite for starting LB’s. Especially against the Browns and Ravens rush attacks

LeCounte falling to the 4th, can’t see it. But would I love it? Well. Does the tin man have a sheet metal cock?

Like all the lineman you picked - not very familiar with Menet.

I’m a Boston College follower. Max Richardson made splash plays, but would give up simple stuff quite frequently. Worth a flier, but he was frustrating. Him and McDuffie were both that way.

Its the 27th pick in the 7th round. If they were perfect, they wouldn't be drafted in the 7th. LOL

Menet is a PSU guy. So you're talking about a guy I think we probably have seen a bunch. Somewhat of a local. Played against a lot of good competition in the Big. Again, you are looking at a guy I'm taking for depth not a starter role.

I haven't posted here in a while, but I like how everyone is thinking, that we should not just have our minds set on selecting a tackle in the 1st round.

I mentioned Gibson last year to the Steelers, he's a dual threat out of the backfield.

I can't picture them taking a Tight End at number one. You could be right though. I think that pick will be OL or RB.

I don't think so. I think he goes early in the 2nd to Carolina. That is just my prediction. LOL

In all honesty thought, I do truly believe he will be gone early. The guy I'm wanting to look at some more is the TE from Boston College. I think he can be gotten in the 4th and he may fit what we want a little better. I do think with us having Ebron still at the #1 role, we may add a guy like Jessie James or another UFA to fill that #2 TE role.

We've gone that route 3 times before.... That's why I ran 4 different scenarios.... O-line is much deeper than TE in this draft... We can get starters on the o-line as far down as the 4th Rd....I don't recommend that, but we do have options in that area

I ran a new Mock today. Probably a weekly tradition between now and the draft This has the following assumptions:

    1. Ben is coming back - No QB is drafted.
    2. The one need where I didn't draft someone was at G. I am assuming we can find a UDFA, maybe a tackle from a big school, to move to guard and fill a depth role. (see Ramon Foster)
    3. The draft will be somewhat offensively focused early, but will also hit some major holes on the defensive side of the ball with the goal of providing depth, not starters.

24: R1 P24 OT Alex Leatherwood - Alabama - May be an immediate starter
55: R2 P23 C Landon Dickerson - Alabama - Will be a day 1 starter, but the LT along the line will be someone he knows.
87: R3 P23 RB Javonte Williams - North Carolina - Other than Harris, he is my favorite RB in the draft.
125: R4 P23 EDGE Malcolm Koonce - Buffalo - He is marginal to me. Depth player, not a starter. His success in the NFL will come down to hard work.
138: R4 P36 DL Alim McNeill - North Carolina State - I have seen him in the 2nd in some mocks. He is a great option to add to the mix of Buggs and Davis as depth along the Dline.
209: R6 P30 TE Tony Poljan - Virginia - Can you say Gentry? Former QB turned TE. Decent numbers considering.
240: R7 P18 S JR Pace - Northwestern - He is at Northwestern, meaning he is probably pretty intelligent. Let's hope that transfers to the field as well. He made plays in the Big. Let's hope this helps.
    249: R7 P27 WR Rico Bussey - Hawaii - He's a 7th round WR. This is a gamble.

So what did we accomplish with this mock?

    1. Added 2 talented guys to Dotson and one of Banner or Chuks to start building a new offensive line.

Leatherwood/Dotson/Dickerson/DeCastro/Banner or Chuks looks better than Chuks/Dotson/Hassenhauer/DeCastro/Banner

    2. We added a running back who while I don't think he will be Bell, will be part of a stable of backs to help fix the running game.

    3. We added defensive depth on all 3 levels. A safety, an edge rusher, and a defensive lineman.

    4. We added 2 project offensive skill position players. A TE and a WR.
