I remember Donnie Shell found religion one season. Then his level of play dropped as he was kinder gentler. Then apparently he lost religion and played well again.

This will probably go well with the politically correct police. ;)

    No doubt.

Stirring up the hornets nest is quite fun if one is well equipped.

That's Tom "The Bomb" Tracy for those of us who were fans at that point - and Steeleretttes??????? Were those official cheerleaders or fan club members? I don't remember them - shows where my priorities were at age 12.

Is it 28 days until rookies report or until the official opening of camp?

I thought they usually had the rookies report a day early to get them acclimated and sorted before the vets get there and show how to really do camp.

Ha - I picked up a few of those football cards/plastic replica figures many years ago for Xmas presents for my brothers at the 99 Cent Only store except these ones were labeled "Buddy Brister". Must be high valued collectables at this point with "Buddy's" two SB rings.

"His former teammate in Philadelphia, linebacker Bill Romanowski, had signed with the Denver Broncos and, in 1997, suggested to Broncos head coach Mike Shanahan that he take a look at Brister. Brister signed with Denver and became their number 3 quarterback for the 1997 season, backing up Hall of Fame quarterback John Elway and Jeff Lewis. Brister's only significant playing time in the 1997 season came in a week 17 game against the San Diego Chargers. Before the 1998 season, Lewis had fallen out of favor with the Broncos; thus, Brister became the primary backup QB. During the 1998 season, Elway was forced to sit out a number of games due to injury and Brister started those games in his place. He played well and the Broncos went undefeated in all of his starts (4-0); Brister also broke the team's (then) record for longest rushing touchdown by a quarterback[4] and recorded a higher passer rating than Elway. However, when Elway retired in 1999, Brister was passed over for the starting spot in favor of Brian Griese, and the Broncos released him after that season. During his three seasons with the Broncos, he won two Super Bowl rings."

Good story. Wasn't Brister's nickname "Bubby" not "Buddy." Can somebody tell us his real first name without Googling it?

Walter! Yes it was Bubby but the package said Buddy. It was a joke squared! I would have bought them as a morbid joke even if there wasn't a misprint because we were all still so PO'd the way he helped lose what was one of the greatest single man performance in any Steeler game ever by Meryl Hoge. The fact he went on to get two SB rings as a backup could only have been topped if he who's name shall not be repeated on this sacred message board had gone on to get a SB ring with say the Jets.

This was Brady Keys Jr. - a decent cornerback for the Steelers in the early 60's but quite an entrepreneur. Good read below from Pittsburgh Sports Daily interview in 2011 and how Mr Rooney helped him get started in business. Remarkable. I'm sure there are hundreds of such stories involving Mr Rooney that we'll never know about.

That was a good read. If more people in our country had that attitude and drive, all of us would be better for it.
