2017 Draft...where is the hole? What is the pick?

I think they should draft 2 OLBs, Jarvis and Harrison are gone in 2017.

 

Jarvis isn't a guarantee to be gone. Nobody is going to pay him the big bucks so if he's getting back up money, he could still get it here. We're gonna be thin at the position anyways so letting him go could be a problem. Dupree Moats Chickillo and a rookie isn't necessarily a better situation than we are in now.

 

The Steelers will go with a rookie OLB, their money will be spent on AB, Bell.

 

Long Snapper. Warren isn't getting any younger.

On a more serious note, though, I think some type of Edge Rusher seems to be the biggest glaring need they have right now. The current LB core isn't generating a whole lot of pressure, and they need to in a traditional 3-4. With the impending retirement of Harrison, and uncertainties about Jones, I think OLB is probably the pick.

2. DE/DT (that has pass rushing ability)
3. OLB
4. LT (I'm not sold on AV)
5. ILB
6. RB
7. WR

James Harrison, Jarvis Jones, and Lawrence Timmons won't be back next year. So, you have Moats Chick, and dupree on the outside unless we sign a free agent. Actually I would draft OLB in the first two rounds or anyone that can rush the passer.

 

Indeed for the defensive end. It pains me to say this (call it sacrilege if you will), but Stephon Tuitt has not looked like the world beating 3-4 pass rushing end we thought him to be. He is tall and long.. but what else?


Deatrich Wise Jr. from Arkansas has looked quite well.

 

Well, you have to remember Tuitt was drafted to play the 5 technique like Aaron Smith and just hold blockers. Now we are asking him to get up field which I don't think is his strong suite. He's a good DT but definitely not the DE we need in this defense.

 

Tuitt was actually reputed as a top 10 selection before his knee injury. He was also tabbed as a person with high amounts of pass rushing upside.


In addition, in his last year, LeBeau changed the schematics of the 3-4 defense. As opposed to using the Okie front... he went with the Eagle front; the most aggressive form of the 3-4 for defensive lineman.

As much as I feel an OLB/edge rusher is the way the Steelers should go.
I personally have gone to the QB position as who I will be watching and hoping for.
We have the luxury of a talented roster & #7 probably playing a little longer, let him mentor this person.
