I saw on the transactions we released chickillo and grant? That's 2 wasted in the secondary between grant and holliman. Last year with Shaq... Do we not have any eye for the secondary?

Wow I saw two critical stories on Steelers Depot and a blog on ESPN.

Both talking about how by cutting Grant you only have 2 CBs under contract for next year (Cortez and Golson).

What I think is most concerning is that they don't stick anywhere else.

I could see if we maybe didn't turn them right or bad scheme fit but apparently they just weren't talented enough. I would infer there is a major issue with evaluating talent at the CB position.

Yeah it's Lake... He always talks high of who he gets and then they get round filed... Crazy. So is it confirmed then that grant is gone?

But don't be blaming Lake for the poor performance or lack of development of our DBs. I did that last year and got crucified for it.

Wait what? Now the team has A head case CB, and no depth behind him for next year?

The problem isn't some late rounders not working out. The problem is we ignore a serious need in the secondary until the later rounds (and I'm not counting the midget we took in the 2nd this year). I know you can't draft every position high but they just really don't seem to care about the DBs. It's frightening.

I'm not hung up on the where, Seattle has shown you can find good DB's late and we did take one in the second which is high. My problem is what is seemingly a lack of ability to evaluate this position. 3 picks that don't even make it out of camp is bad. I didn't think there was any question that Grant was going to be part of this team. Wondering what the heck happened on that one.

Yeah, I wasn't excited by the Grant pick but you had to think he'd make the team. Maybe the issue is that Tomlin was a DB coach and thinks he can find late round gems and coach 'em up... rather than Colbert spending a top pick on a DB. It's easily the worst secondary in football and it's such a passing league now. Really not good.

That would be no, you forgot about Curtis Brown, Terrance Frederick, Terry Hawthorne and now Shamarko on his way to being a bust.

I would assume that with the trade for Boykin that we would be seriously considering re-signing him. Blake should be another cheap signing. Maybe another McCain type FA? We could always keep Gay for another season or two. We have plenty of options.

OK why do so many people throw the bust word around so frequently with players who aren't busts? To me any player taken after the first half of the third round can't be a bust. They weren't expected to be great or they would have been taken before that.

Really shocked by the release of Grant...

I trust the coaches know better, and saw more of him in camp, practices, etc...

But, from watching him at OSU, I thought he was a LOCK to make the team, given what we have here at CB...

MAYBE, not an immediate starter, but, was sure he had the talent to back up someone here, at worst..

Wonder what he did/didn`t do at practice/camp, to get cut...

Has to be more to this than we know, as fans.

    GO STEELERS!

I kno this is off topic, but making a thread, for this QUESTION was not worth it... Why hasnt Dupree changed his # ?.. #48 is kinda weak/ dull # for a LB IMO...

Its ok i guess, but i thought certain positions had to have certain #'s grouping in the NFL

It is a bit different. The only other Steelers linebacker to wear #48 was the late David Little in 1981.
