The steelers never really tried to fix the problem with Sweed, BA pretty much cut him off after his 3rd drop
i still don't think it was a hard problem to solve

not BA's problem, first off. the kid hasn't made it anywhere including the cfl. it goes deeper than 3 drops.

Yeah, I can't defend Sweed anymore, he's failed everywhere he's played.

Mac, I think you're right. It really is Wheaton's to lose. I really don't see Bryant being an NFL-ready Z receiver by camp's end and I have no insight at all on J. Brown or Moye. I like everything about DHB's measurables and character, but man it really seems like he just can't catch.

Lance Moore is our F for sure.

I think who ends up with the 2nd most catches and who lines up as the Z to AB's X (what I consider to be the #2) are two entirely different questions.

I think Wheaton will lock down the #2 outside receiver spot. However, Wheaton along with Moore, Heath, and even Bell all have an opportunity to catch 40+ balls this year. I have a feeling our second option behind AB will change week to week depending on game plan, match ups, and whoever is making plays that given day.

Having multiple capable "second threat" options should make us more difficult to defend.

Well, since I have not seen anything definitive from any of these WR's yet, I'll hold off on any projections. But from the general tone of the thread it sure sounds like a very formidable receiving group is in the making.

My early expectation though is that Wheaton is a starter. He was not drafted to be a #2. And possibly will be a #1. This is coming from a fan who thought that AB would become the most dangerous WR in the league 2 years ago. At the time it was a slightly biased opinion but during stretches of last year it sure seemed like he was.

Anyway what's wrong with having 2 #1 caliber WR's out there. And if these others are really that good then the 3WR set [4??] should be out there even more.

lots of good responses guys. thanks.

I think wheaton will play #2 if he's healthy. BUT, will he be and how often? he already got hurt in OTA's this year.

I think we could very easily see a #2 by committee. to me moore and JB are possession receivers. DHB could start but he's a one year guy as of now. I think they want a more permanent starter opposite AB. I think Bryant has the talent to be that guy but just not yet. I also still think moye is a talent to not let get away yet either, but the numbers are not in his favor I feel.

we have a lot of good receivers, maybe not great receivers but good with high ceilings. so why not mix and match our number two with mismatches on the defense? until someone takes the spot, it could keep ben familiar with all. he would still have his security blankets in heath, bell and AB, so he will still have a modge podge of receivers from the other side to get familiar with.

JB, bryant and DHB are also better blockers in the run game and that's also a very important part of our offense from these guys. my hope is they all become proficient at it.

surely we wouldn't keep all of them. would we? 3 qbs. 3 TEs. 4 rbs. 8 ol. AB,wheaton, moore,Bryant,DHB,JB,moye. 7 wr plus archer as a rb. 25 offense.:hmmm:

I mean it's possible but I doubt we keep 7. The defense could get away with less players then on the offensive side due to all the players that can play multiple position
