What I'm saying is that you take his cap value, after trading him (plus the draft pick(s)) and invest in several good/solid blue collar tough coachable players, as opposed to having that "one" star edge rusher. It's more like the early NE model. No superstars! But coachable, hard working good technicians. And more of them.

How bad did that Chargers win hurt us?

    Really didn't change anything

3 things need to happen in week 17 to keep the Steelers chances alive for the final week of the season

    1. Steelers win vs the Ravens

    2. Seahawks win vs the Jets

    3. Patriots win vs the Dolphins

If those 3 things happen in week 17, The Steelers would still be alive and need 3 additional things in week 18.

    Needs in week 18 are....

    1. Steelers win vs the Browns

    2. Jets win over the Dolphins

    3. Buffalo wins vs the Patriots.

That's a total of 6 results. 3 on week 17 and 3 on week 18. If all 6 results happen, the steelers are the 7th seed in the playoffs

Seahawks vs Jets is the most tenuous.

True, especially with the Jets getting Mike White back this week.

The Dolphins may have lost Tagovailoa again. He is back in the concussion protocol, though somehow nobody noticed when it actually happened during the game Sunday.

I was just informed of a possibility that involves a jets win over the seahawks.
If the jets beat the seahawks, the steelers would need a jets/dolphins tie in week 18

So many little things that cost us wins this year...but that fumble against the Pukes really hurts now. And Jesse James caught that ball.

It's in Seattle, and Seattle needs the game as much as the Jets do.

In order of likelihood, here's the way I see the games

    Bills beat Pats
    Steelers beat Browns
    Pats beat Dolphins
    Seahawks beat Jets
    Jets beat Dolphins
Steelers beat Ravens (if Lamar plays, otherwise flip Jets/Dolphins and this one)

To tell the truth i only think we would have 5 wins this year.I don't like Tomlin but
gotta give him credit. Does Tomlin have the power to get rid of canada ?

On 538.com, the Chargers win cut their chances in half from 4% to 2%.

Basically, LAC took one playoff spot and one path to the playoffs away. All that remains is a 6-game combo where all games have to go the Steelers way:

    Pgh beats Bsl and Cle
Mia loses to NE and NyJ
    NyJ lose to Seattle
    NE loses to Bufg

The 12% chance assumes that Pit wins their two games. In other words, if the Steelers do all the things that they control, they still have an 88% chance of missing the playoffs.

    There’s another odd scenario:

    The Steelers get in if:

    They beat Cle and Bal
NE loses to Buff, beats Mia
    NyJ and Mia tie.

God I hope the Steelers make it for bankroll purposes. It would be either @KC @Buff or @Cincy

Vegas couldn’t set those lines high enough.

They could give the Bengals a game, but not the Chiefs or Bills.

Of course he caught it, but it was a very strange drive on the whole. If JuJu kept running down the sideline with those blockers in front of him he probably could have scored, or at least made it to the 1 or 2 yard line. But no, for some unknown reason he decides to cut to the middle of the field and gets caught around the 10 yard line. And even after the terrible no catch ruling on Jesse James, the last play when Ben gets picked, JuJu and Heyward-Bey were just loafing around the line of scrimmage and didn't even try to break free in the end zone.

Don’t want to toot my own horn but this is why I said back even when they were 2-5/2-6 you just never completely write a season off. Too many things can happen and you just never know. The Steelers since being 2-6 are now 6-2 and right there with a chance to make the playoffs in week 18 it’s pretty incredible.

Glad they're still alive, but if they win next week and don't get the help they needed - did they hurt themselves talent wise in the long run. Never bad for some of the situations their young roster has gone through, but need still would prefer a top 5 pick to just missing the playoffs which is way behind making the playoffs.

The way it stands right now, in order for the steelers to have had a top 5 pick, they would have to be at 4 wins or less. That ship sailed away a long time ago.

When they were 5-8,the steelers had 0.2% chance to make the playoffs....It's going to be the biggest miracle ever if they make the playoffs because it was almost impossible when they were 5-8!

    Yes and no.

Indy was beaten by the Steelers, so had the Steelers not won that game the bar would be 5. Steelers also beat the Raiders who are in the running.

Like I said, I'd rather they make the playoffs. But just missing is worse, IMO, than missing by a lot.
