For those who haven't made this connection yet... we are 2 games away from being tied with 6 Superbowls. And with a Hairball as head coach. Don't forget we already laid down at a chance to defend that prestigious position :frustrated:

I'll be rooting for Tebow, the Texans, or the Giants (I just threw up a little) from here on out...

But there will forever be one team that was the first to 6.

Exactly. Many teams will eventually get to 6, but we were there 1st. We'll also be the 1st to seven.

    The 49ers?

Really? I think the Pats get to 4 before they get 6.

The Pack get to 5 too.

Ahh, did time begin in 1966? If the Packers win this year that gives the 5 Super Bowls + 2 Pre Super Bowl Championships in the 1960's for a total of 7. Seeing that the same team that won the First two SBs, won the other two championship just before then and that they named the trophy after their coach, it don't see why they don't count. 1960 seems to be a perfectly reasonable starting point for keeping score, since that was when the AFL teams started to play.

I mean, if the current arrangement was set up in 1976 instead of 1966, and it bi-sected the 4 Steeler championships, you'd still still count the first two, wouldn't you??

I think a big reason most people ignore everything prior to 1970 is due to the fact that with half the teams in the league, it was twice as easy to win the championship. There wasn't nearly the competition that there was in 1970. Also, drafting was very different as each league didn't necessarily get the best players, they got the best players that they thought would sign with their league.

We count superbowls now, not nfl championships. Two leagues merged to form a new one and started playing for superbowls. No teams from the afl still count their championships in this era. Just because they kept the nfl name doesnt mean anything. Its now a different league after the merger. Only packer fans argue this point. Even lions and browns fans dont try to hang onto the championships they won in a different league. If next year the nfl merged with the canadian football league to form a new league and calles their title game the north america bowl and handed out the rodger goodell trophy we would start counting those and the Steelers would have zero goodell trophies.

And no i wouldnt count those. They would be two different championships. Two superbowls and two nfl championships from a different league

The 49ers aren't winning the Super Bowl. Trust me.

I also heard there was no chance of them beating New Orleans. I also heard the NYG had no chance of beating the Pats in the SB. Hell, even Denver had no chance of beating us last week, and I mean no chance. In football, anything can happen.
