a nice power run for 8 right up the gut.
if they are going to get back to the run than they need to do it right out of the gate.

(OK, not to single anyone out...they wouldn't be alone)

Every time an announcer calls it 'hook and ladder' my head explodes.
It takes some time putting my head back together, but, not so much time stuffing in the brains.

These morons have been corrupting fans for so long, many people don't even know the correct term anymore, 'hook and lateral'.
If I was King of Broadcast, any announcer who used 'hook/ladder' would immediately be sent to work for the Browns.

    Sorry, just a pet peeve.
    Thank you for your time.

P.S. Is 'Heads Together' still in business? Squirrel Hill, I believe?

I assumed everyone knew that Ladder was short for Lateral. So I see it as an abbreviation, not an abomination unto the Lord. I love the Hook & Lateral so dearly as a play that in my many years of coaching I've worked it into every single offense and most games. And I'm sorry to tell you, but I've been calling it the Hook & Ladder. It's about flow like Tomlin_Era said. But you'll be happy to know that I always explain to my kids why it's called what it is, and about the lateral part.

What always gets me is that it's called a Hook/Ladder even when it's not a Hook. Why not Out/Ladder? Most of mine were off of smoke routes. If you want I could start calling it the Hitch & Pitch...?

If you called them "smoke routes"... I am fairly sure there is some politically correct group out there, that would be offended, that you were "corrupting" their kids! :roflmao:
Tell me the toaster isn`t burning the bread...!!! :lolol:
The "smoke" detector might go off, and inspire a fear of toasters! :hehehe:

I was thinking we should run the center sneak. No one will see that coming! If that doesn't work we can run a center bubble screen and turn it into a hitch and pitch and when it doesn't work we can call it the ***** and moan! Why I'm not coaching in the NFL is beyond me? Speaking of Beyonce...I'm hungry.

I expect a deep playaction to start. Either to Wallace or Brown, maybe even Heath.

Okay, when I really think about it... my first thought was "Oh, everyone is so crazed about the Steelers 'returning to the running game' blah blah blah that they will be expecting a run, and we'll do a nice little play action to Heath or Will Johnson." Nothing too crazy like a bomb, but something in the 5-15 yard range. But after a day or so, the more I think about it, the more I think that's what they'll be expecting, so we might as well go ahead and pound one with whoever our RB is.

The bad news is the game is still 4 days away. I'll probably go back and forth like 20 times. I need to not think about this.

Well.... when we ran it in high school MANY years ago, we called it a hook and ladder -and- we ran it off of a hook route. It would have worked too if wasn't for those meddling kids! Oops... channeling Scooby Doo villains again... apologies for that.

Anyway, I agree with the many that are predicting an inside run as the first play called, but I see it being a 1 yard gain, not 4+. How often does our running game start off hot? Fortunately, Ben frequently does start off hot, and I expect that he will be sharp out of the gate and lead a drive for 3 or 7 on the first possession.
