Looking back, the 1987 draft turned out very good for the Steelers. Rod Woodson was #1, Delton Hall was #2, and Thomas Everette was #4. we definitely need a similar draft to get some DB help now. We also picked up Greg Lloyd and Hardy Nickerson and Merill Hoge. Not as great as the 1974 draft, but 1987 was very good.

Nice post. This draft was made possible by a slot provided by the 1986 team's 6-10 finish. As I've posted before, the 1986 team reminds me a lot in some ways of this 2013 one.

    Plus Joey Clinkscales!

Never forget Clinkscales... I believe he is actually still in the NFL, in the Jets backroom staff.

Two years later the Steelers had two #1's they used on Tim Worley and Tom Ricketts. Not good. But them you look way down the draft and there's Lake in the 3rd and Haselrig in the 12th. It's amazing how many high picks bust and how many low picks succeed.

Aye - I have a collection of NFL yearbooks they used to release over here in the UK from the 80s and 90s, and it's always fun to read about how, e.g., "first round pick David Klingler will surely be a success story at the Bengals"; while noticing the number of players sneaking in through the last few rounds who go on to have great careers.

The Benglas had a long history of #1 pick Q.B.'s that didn't work out. Klingler, Akili Smith, Jack Thompson, Greg Cook and Carson Palmer was only good for a couple of years. Looks as if they have the guy they need now and of course, he was drafted in the 2nd round.
