156 is the total of rushing carries this season by Jonathan Dwyer. That total led the team by a wide margin.

156 is also the fewest numbers of carries to lead the team in 43 freaking years- (not counting the 9 game, strike shortened, 1982 season)- since Dick Hoak had 151 in the 14 game, 1-13 season of 1969.

    Cripes.

    This needs to change.

That's what happens when you have injuries and inconsistency at the running back position.

Dang man and I bet also that MOST of those runs were on 1st and 2nd down.

Winning the starting role in camp and staying healthy would have given him more carries.

    156 carries: so what.

I do not care who has how many carries or how many yards; I just want to see the ball run better. Jersey sales, favorite players, and individual stats do not win championships.

No, but a big time running back who has say, 300 carries and 1,200 yards does. That's my point, and that's what I want to see. I don't think the Steelers have such a back capable of doing that in 2013 on their roster right now.

Before season start I was on here worrying about the run game. Obviously, that fear continued through the season.

W/O Mendenhall, we have no running game. That hurt Ben and the pass O.

We need to find some kind of run game for next season.

Mendenhall was a non-factor today and Dwyer looked really good. Not sure I understand your statement.

thats what happens when a team thinks it has 3 starting rb's. it actually means they had none.

they needed to pick a guy and stick with him instead of playing rotate the starter each week.

Mendy was a non factor all season, not just today and likely gone.

Dwyer the answer for an entire season, start to finish?

How much of it was the RB, how much was the playcalling and how much was a decimated o-line the problem?

If I knew, I guess I would interview for them under the alias, "the wizard".

However, I think I know we'd better get it fixed.

So if you don't know, why would you say that without Mendenhall we have no running game? It clearly is a combination of several things and not just the guy we put in the backfield.

If he doesn't play I'm not sure how you determine what variables factor in the overall result?

I agree; That could be true. Is or isn't Dwyer? Who knows. Redman and Rainey are suplemental backs to keep around.

I don't think Dwyer is an every down back. I wonder if Tomlin will form a permanent policy on running backs now though based on how the backs by committee thing went this year. I personally think the Rooney's are gonna want them to settle on a back because they brought Haley here to reestablish the run and I don't see them getting behind this by committee stuff. That's just my opinion.

322, I know we are on the same page as this- this team needs to run the ball more effectively. I see that as the #1 problem with the team this year. I'm not sold that Dwyer is the guy who can lug the ball 20 times a week. Everything changes for this offense- and to an extent this team- with an effective running game that chews up the clock and keeps the defense off the field. I feel that last year's draft addressed the OL, this one needs to give us a RB.

Dwyer and Redman were stopped just as suddenly as Mendy was when the Browns penetrated the backfield. Dwyer and Redman had some nice 10 yard runs when the OL opened up some holes; problem for Mendy was, as has been for the past 4 years, he had no holes to work with today.

No matter, in a few days Mendy's locker will be cleared out for good and we go into 2013 with Chris Rainey as our only RB under contract.

The variables are pretty easy to figure out if you just watch the games.

mendenhall is clearly the most talented back...he has a combination of speed, power and the ability to bounce it outside... that being said...he was months removed from an ACL injury...came back too soon got hurt and got benched.... is his head in it? IDK...

The fact that the O-line had been banged up again plays a big factor...Adams is the best Run blocker on the team..when he was in the games they were running well...in not a coincidence... he will only get better

For all those who want Dwyer to be the man, to carry the load, to get more carries.........the guy takes himself out of the game when gets two touches in a row. If Wallace did that it would be evidence of his total and complete gutlessness

With Mendy out this year, and possibly gone next, we need to find a premier RB. A starter that can carry the load start to finish.

I like Dwyer, a solid supplemental back if they use him correctly.

This draft, the hunt begins no matter what happens.
