There has been much talk about how competitive the AFC is this year. I agree. Many think that it will take 11 wins to get a playoff berth via either the WC or the AFCN champ. I believe that at least two of the the three spots (AFCN, WC#1, WC#2) will be occupied by 10 win teams. Assuming NE, DEN, IND are division champs, the remaining 6-win teams include MIA, SD, CLE, BAL, PIT, and the 7-win Chiefs. I just don't think 3 of these teams will win 11 games. In fact, with KC's schedule, there is a better chance that none of them will.

I am not talking the complexities of tie-breakers (too early) here, but I am curious to see how many here think it will REQUIRE 11 wins to get in?

And....if 10 wins gets you in (4-2 down the stretch), and (a big assumption here) we win vs. TEN, does a split in the CIN games and a loss vs either ATL or NO, guarantee us a spot?

I have a hard time looking ahead after last week. We lost to a true bottom feeder in the league and now were playing another bottom feeder in Tennessee. I'm not confident we will win this game. I know we can win, in fact, I know we can smash this team, but the question is will we? I just have no confidence in this team these days. So I just want to see a win tonight before I even consider a playoff birth.

Let's put it this way - I think it will require 11 wins to avoid being subject to tiebreakers (either for division or WC). I've looked at the various schedules, and I can realistically see (7) 10 win teams emerging from the AFC.

Last year I was rewarded for not giving up on our team in November by a near heart attack by a certain KC FG kicker on Dec. 29th. All this talk of "undeserving" or "playoff caliber" is as speculative as discussing potential records at the end of the season. Its all an exercise, and I know it. The reality is that the teams that do get in, deserved it. The reason we were left out is not because of that missed fg or ABrown stepping out or the loss in London....it was because of all of it.

I just think that 10 wins is the number this year. Maybe we lose to TEN and NO, win the rest, and get in....I just think 10 wins gets it for us this yr. And if it goes that way, we deserve it.

    Cheers.

    I can't call it.

This team has the talent to win out and go 12-4. But will they? Bucs and Jets... I can't call it.

Theres no predicting this season, I've seen every single "dominant" team suffer embarrassing losses. Certainly lesser quality playoff teams are capable of falling short of 10 wins.

Evidenced most recently by the Rams win against Denver lol

Ya just never know anymore. Years ago you could feel a teams dominance. Now it's anybodys game

10-6 or 11-5 whatever it takes to win the division and at least get a home playoff game. As of now I don't see us ending up catching Denver or NE for better position than that. 11-5 is possible but we will have to start playing much more consistently. Bad losses which we have already had two always seem to bite us in the end. We gave Tampa their first win and the Jets their second ,pray we don't give Tenn. their third.

That only gets us to 9 wins. Forgot KC, which is one of the hitter teams, so we'd need to win 2 of 3 vs ATL, NO and KC, if we win 2 of 3 vs Ten and Cin x 2.

I doubt we win 10 games. The only thing we'll succeed doing is solidifying a mid first round draft pick who wont see the field for 2 years....and then be average anyway.

Nah. I didn't forget. I said "4-2 down the stretch" with a split with CIN and one more non-AFC loss. The only way to get there is to beat KC. Now I think 3-2 will do the trick and if one of the wins is vs. CIN, it might win us the division. Lets see how many of these 6-win teams crumble.

I agree, 9 wins will not get you into the dance this year. I'll predict that both wildcard teams have 10 wins. But there may also be teams that miss out with 10 wins.
