So, all things considered (pre-combine projections not as accurate as post-combine), what would you like to see in the 2015 draft?

Some of these players will fall to us, some won't last to our pick, but let's chat about your dream pick.

    http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap30...-draft-order-top-three-needs-for-all-32-teams

    Here is their take.

    22. Pittsburgh Steelers
    2014 record: 11-5 (.451)
Top three needs: S, DL, CB
Top-rated prospects at positional needs: S: Landon Collins (Alabama), Gerod Holliman (Louisville),Derron Smith (Fresno State); DL: Leonard Williams (USC), Shane Ray (Missouri), Arik Armstead(Oregon); CB: Marcus Peters (Washington), Trae Waynes (Michigan State), Kevin Johnson (Wake Forest).

Yea know, most sources rarely get the whole picture when it comes to all things Steelers. The fact that they didn't know that if Worilds isn't signed back (and maybe even if he is) OLB is a critical position to upgrade, yet they don't even list it as a need. If we don't have edge rushers our D is toast. I believe we need to draft a S but is it more crucial than a CB at this point. We actually did better with Troy out of the game, so even if we don't bring him back, S may not be as critical as CB and OLB. They mention DL but I am assuming they are referring to NT, as our starting DEs could be quite good with Tuitt and Heyward. If there isn't a Polamalu, Ed Reed, Earl Thomas level S at our pick, don't spend it on S. We may actually spend our 3rd first round pick in a row on a LB, and it might even make the most sense even though that seems way overkill on one position. Of this list and others, who would you like seeing taken in our 1st round, and maybe the next few rounds? Leonard Williams seems too tall (6-6) to play NT in our system, although we are trying McCullers with his great height there, but we spent a late round pick on the guy.

CB or LB in the first is the way to go, depending on the value and whos there when we pick. I do not want to see a NT taken with the other needs we have. I suppose that if neither a LB/CB are available worthy of a pick, I would be ok spending it on a NT but its not my ideal scenario.

I'm not in draft mode yet, so too early for me to comment on those individual players yet.

As for your post title, you'll find all draft discussions here in the Bill Nunn Draft Room :hello:

Thanks BF, don't quite know my way around yet. I would be OK with a NT only if he was on a Big Snack level of quality. Our 3-4 version, at least DL's version, is very dependent on dominant NT play. After Steed, our D fell apart, then got studly again when we got Casey. After Casey, we slipped again. An immovable beast is crucial to this D, or at least crucial to the way it was run under DL. Will Butler's version of his D also require a dominant NT? I am not wise enough to know, but it certainly could. We pick relatively late, so a blue chip, top shelf OLB who gets to the QB or shut down CB might be unlikely to land - not impossible - but not likely.

Cmon BF it's never to early to get back on the TE bandwagon. I figured you would be all in on Mad Maxx, he looks like a better prospect than Ebron.;)

I think my front runner for now is Quinten Rollins CB from Miami of Ohio. Only one year of college ball, but what a great start. Great feet with the basketball background and is not afraid of contact. 5'11" 193#

One guy that I'm thinking about is FSU corner PJ Williams.

I like Williams but he just doesn't have that IT factor for me. I'm not sure any of these cb's really have that. I like rollins but I think it's a bit high for him, same as PJ. I do however think there are some very solid guys to be had late and later to add to whomever we draft.

here is a list of guys that I hope we look at as possible later picks that I think could help us. maybe not blue chippers but down the road as very solid players.

kevin white tcu. I'd put him as high as a 2nd rounder and a possible starter for us but just not a guy to cover #1's.
senquez golson ole miss solid kid but smaller. good coverage skills
doran grant oh.st. could play corner or safety
ladarius gunter mia. see above. good size too.
Lorenzo doss tul. again solid coverage.
    Charles gains lou. see above.
eric rowe Utah in the same mold as gunter and grant.
quandre diggs tex. short but not small. maybe more as a nickel or safety, but very very solid all over the field.
deshazor Everett tex.a&m. solid cover guy. good college player. slightly overlooked.
damian swann Georgia a little overlooked.
nick waisome fla.st. replaced by darby as a starter athletically but is still a solid corner.
dior mathis ore. small but plays well. possible nickel or dime guy that would more than surprise.
Antoine lewis purd. this kid has some game. not the biggest guy but can play some ball.

this list has very capable guys that played very well in college and could definitely add depth and probably more down the road. a good bunch to stockpile from. some could contribute immediately and fill in or eventually play as corner safety type help. just some guys to take a good look at as I don't think there is any cut and dry number 1's in this draft. I do think they could raise what we have in place though as complements and depth. diamonds in the rough type players.:smiley1::cool:

Gerry Dulac: Caril, I will get a better feel for that after the combine, but I'll give you two names right now -- LSU CB Jalen Collins and Louisville DE Lorenzo Mauldin.

What are your guys thoughts on Ameer Abdullah? Any chance he makes it to our 4th....highly doubtful I know. Is a back up to The Chocolate Diamond a option in the draft? What is too early to start thinking about one?

I'd love him or duke Johnson, but no way would either be there in the 4th. my thinking is back to mich. st. for Langford in the 4th as a possibility.

So you think no earlier than the 4th? What about Ameer if he's sitting there in the third when we pick?

Draft him. I think that Abdullah would be great in tandem with Bell. Unfortunately, I don't think there's any way he's making it all the way to round 3 tho

My RB is still Buck Allen from USC, and I think it's a pretty safe bet he makes it to day 3. From what I've seen of him he could contribute in all three phases like Bell can. And he has a good frame. I'll have to watch some YouTube film on Abdullah to form a good opinion on him.

there are some good backs in this draft. Abdullah and Johnson are tough as nails and get that extra yardage when there is none. very similar to bell. I doubt either one makes it past the 2nd round or even to our 2nd round let alone 3rd or 4th.

I know we need defense, but to take the 3rd or 4th or 5th best when we pick at any certain position and leave some really good offensive fire power just sitting there would be foolish I think. we are not really complete on offense either, just maybe not as bare as defense at this point.

it sure would be nice to have a guy we can really put on the field to keep the offense moving when bell takes a breather or gets dinged up. I'd rather they share some touches for bell so we could actually use him for that stretch run into the latter parts of the season. he has taken a lot of hits and he won't hold up forever, so why not get him some good help that will keep this offense moving forward. why sign ben and then strap ourselves because of a RB that's not there when we need him. it's good for ben too.

I think we can still get a good compliment to bell in round 4-6, with so many solid players in this draft. the RB spot is starting to make a comeback as an offensive weapon in the NFL. look what bell has done for ours. look at what happens when we don't have a good one on the field for ben.
