Anyone who puts to much stock into pre season games is pretty clueless.

I appreciate this thread. It made me cheer harder when there was 2 minutes left.

Could care less if they win preseason.

I do care what the starters look like when they're out there.
I liked what I saw from: Ben, Bell, Archer, S thomas, Mitchell, TP, Suisham, Timmons, & Jones.
I thought decent: Bryant, Tuitt, Garvin, Blount & Dangerfield, & Allen
Not happy w/ : Isaih Green, Adams and Poole Be gone with them.

The scrubs looked like what they are, scrubs.

I'm definitely not ready to crown them. If you want to crown them, then go ahead and crown them. But they are what we thought they were. Not ready to begin the season.

Preseason games are what they are. I don't care one way or the other if they lose oor win or lose in the final minutes or win in the final minutes. What I do care about it the level of success they show in areas they are working on. Part of the reason preseason games are useful is that they offer you real time in game situations. So say you are working on your red zone offense, it is difficult to gauge how they are doing in practice because the defense has rules governing their play, it is your own teammates and so on. So yes you don't want to give away too much in the preseason but I still think you work on the concepts you are implementing in camp. Don't waste prime real time situations because you are worried about tipping your hand. Also don't waste time on gadgets plays you are never going to use, focus on fundamentals.

Last year is last year, and if you wanted to put stock into something, why would you cling to an 0-4 pre season start when they finished real games 6-2?

    This thread is a joke.

I watch the preseason intently but don't care for the W. It allows me to really watch the individual performances.

My sh#t list this year thus far:
Adams (it's over), Poole (just not enough), Greene (may our paths never cross again), Wing (& a prayer, he needs both).

    The rest I can live.

The worst for me was Rashad Jennings' 73-yard touchdown run in the first quarter. We have seen way too many of those types of big plays the last couple of years.

I'm not putting stock into nuttin' nor clinging to the past, I'm saying at this point after game 1 anything is possible and I didn't see much tonight to shout about..yes a few good things but after last year to your words I thought we'd do much better! This thread is still alive and legit :lolol:

Let me throw this out there. What will they take from this game and build upon for the next? Obviously there were some guys who given the opportunity to put something on tape failed to put their best foot forward and some who showed flashes. So if game two does see more focus and more time for starters what will they show they are working on?

ben only played the first series, and we all know how much different the offense is when he's in there........ pre-season is about execution for the starters and analyzing what we have behind them

I put stock in preseason performance as barometer of how good the team is.

I don't care what the 1st string does, starters often sit, and they are not game planning.

I DO however want to see the 2nd and 3rd string dominate. Out tough them on both lines. out run them and out hit them. If that is not happening you have to wonder how improved they really are.

Mainly because everyone said 0-4 in the preseason didn't matter last year year and the team went 0-4. I believe the last two times they went 0-4 in the preseason they started off the season horribly.

The Steelers were playing a team where their scrubs already had a game's experience, and their starters stayed in much longer. This was not the preseason game to look for an equal comparison. There will be time to panic if the Steelers don't perform well in games 3 and 4.

thursday night all 8 home teams won... the home teams always win for the home fans .. its how the NFL goes.. but we learned more from the game then the giants did... we kicked off short every time to give our ST KO ret team practice.. the G men jsut kicked it deep into or out of the EZ and learned nothing.. but they played ot win we played to learn.. eli played the entire first QT... ben played one series.. we played to learn and not get hurt ..pretty smart if u ask me

exactly what i said to my bro in law.. this was game 2 fo them... game 1 for us.. it was a home game that they needed to win for the few fans at the game.... and they played their starters the first QT .. we played ours the first series only.. they wanted to win .. we wanted to learn.. and we still only lost by 4 points... good game and basically injury free.. that was our biggest WIN... (nice post by a new member MeanJoe)

What was the mentality from last year? What the coaches are mostly evaluating is how individuals perform based on the coaching they received. Most of the players the coaches are evaluating are new players, young players, rookies, and fringe players that may never play in the NFL.

The coaches and players want to win the games. It doesn't matter to me if the team wins or loses the preseason games because the games don't count.

Yeah, I know that, I put more stock into the players missing to start the season then any record in preseason and certainly no 0-4 preseason from decades past has any bearing what so ever on how they perform.
