2014 Final Roster Cuts

Interestingly, I seemed to have heard of more of our initial cuts (Dangerfield, So'oto etc.) than I have the guys left to go. I don't think I even knew Will Simmons was on the team... I obviously need to pay more attention to camp.

 

There are some names out there I am surprised to see. Seastrunk....isn't he a guy pimped on this board as someone we should have drafted?

 

You should announce cuts by saying "Hey Moye come in here and bring your playbook" and "Hey Whimper come in here and bring your playbook and don't let me hear a whimper out of you!" LOL. I really am pretty surprised about Carter and Whimper. I can't say I am about Moye though. I had cheered for him for a long time but I guess he just never came to fruition.

 

Never got much of a chance

 

Yeah they put him in during the Cincy game last year and threw him a fade for a td but after that you hardly ever saw him again. I think most of the time he didn't even dress. I wish him the best though. I guess they just saw more upside in DHB.

I'm glad McCullers made it and I hope he can be coached up because if he can WATCH OUT! Maybe Casey can be brought in as a consultant? LOL. The more I see the big runs the more I miss Casey.

 

So I think the only surprises to me are on the offensive line, Hubbard and Johnson made the team, they aren't finished products right now, I thought for sure Whimper would make it.

Also I think I'm surprised we didn't keep So'oto or HoJo. I guess they see Garvin as an olb in a pinch, but I feel the 2 that got cut were better pass rushers. Moats is the first guy up, so I guess they are gambling on few injuries to our olbs.

I was talking to a big UT fan about him yesterday and he was saying that he was really powerful but couldn't defend the run very good. He said he thinks a pro coach could really help him big time though.

 

Really hope Mauro and Jones don't get stolen.

 

I agree with Mauro, but Jones I am less concerned about. It seems like every year we can find an OLB who everyone is scared to lose. Alan Baxter was last year. The year before it was Adrian Robinson. This year, it is Howard Jones. Robinson and Baxter combined for ZERO NFL snaps?

Of course, I said this when there was only Will Simmons on the board, so now this post looks kind of stupid.

Some interesting cuts there. Some were always hopes over beliefs - H.Jones, for example.

Some are reliefs - I never had much faith that Paulsen was an answer at TE. Whimper was serviceable but replaceable. I wonder if we see him come back if the injury bug hits us later in the season.

And some are surprises - Shaq Richardson? Nick Williams and Josh Mauro (had it figured as one or the other)?

 

What's the avg on draft picks likely being cut by the teams that choose them in their first year? Seems we've been cutting a few here lately. Hawthorne, Davis, now Shaq and branch flower. I'm sure it happens more than realized, just wondering if anyone knew about that sort of stat.

 

I'm I seeing this right, we kept only three OLB's?
