I was literally JUST thinking this while ago! I mean not the so n so part but the ScottChab part. He is a good old feller and always enjoys a good "sign this guy now and we will be the greatest team in the history of ever and every other NFL team has missed this guy but if we bring him in all future Super Bowls will be cancelled and the trophy will be awarded to us at the first of the year and every other team will play for second and the last game of the year will be called the SoSo Bowl but ONLY if we sign THIS guy" thread.

    I'll bite.

I think we are weak at CB and OL so..... looking at initial cuts:

    Ras-I Dowling, CB
    Terrell Thomas, CB
    David Mims, OT
    Oscar Johnson, OT
    James Brown, OT
    Lucas Nix, OL
    Mike McGlynn, OL

Also of interest, but don't really fit with our numbers: Trent Edwards (QB), Cierre Wood (RB), Jamar Chaney (LB), Chris Harper (WR), Michael Egnew (TE), Travis Beckham (TE/HB), Victor Butler (OLB/DE), Martez Wilson (OLB/DE), Joe Adams (WR), Joe Kruger (DE), Tommy Street (WR)

I think (and hope) this team shops the waiver wire/FA for cornerbacks and offensive linemen. Certainly wouldn't hurt to kick the tires on Dowling and Thomas, particularly Thomas. I'm not sure why, but I don't think Dowling played at all for the Jets in preseason. The only two names I recognize of the o-line list are Nix and McGlynn, and I don't believe either of them is really an upgrade personally.

I liked Cierre Wood last year as a zone runner, so I'd bring him in for the hell of it. The Steelers were pretty high on Butler last year if reports are to be believed, but like you said he doesn't really fit with our numbers. Jackson Jeffcoat is another guy to add to that list. Egnew was claimed off waivers.

When I saw that the Pats traded Logan Mankins I got that "man I wish we could have got him" feeling and started thinking about guys that were out there. They traded him for a 4th round pick. Maybe his contract is too big for us though. I'm not sure what he is actually supposed to make but he has been a mainstay on that Pats line for a long time so he probably makes pretty good money and wouldn't have been viable for us from a financial aspect. Man I wish we would get our cap in order.

Yeah, we couldn't afford him, but the price is too high anyway. His salary for this year is over $6 Mil. Pats got a TE in the deal, too.

Yep they need to be .From what I saw last game there has to be better CB'S ,DL and a BU QB on other Teams..
And no this is not the year where we think everyone that is cut is better than our guys. This is the year where there is a lot of truth to that statement.

Well I suppose that's fair enough since they just lost a pretty good TE to the legal system. It would have been nice to have been able to afford a guy like Mankins though. Do you think we overpaid Mitchell? I suppose it's too early to actually say for sure but he hasn't been anything great in the preseason and he has drawn quite a bit of flags. Buuuuut so has every other player under these new ridiculous rules.

Was listening to talk radio yesterday, they had a good conversation on this, about the reality of finding anyone good at this juncture. They were talking about the Jets, whose secondary is in worse shape then ours and that there is little hope of catching lightening in a bottle.

You're pretty much stuck with what you've got at this point.
