The Steelers retiring numbers is about as common as flybys by Halley's Comet.

TTF, you have Stautners # as 50 on the homepage

Edit: LOL, looks like you've fixed it.

Yeah I figured the 50 years is what messed you up. I know you knew the correct number, just didn't know if you caught the mistake. ;)

Well deserved. If anyone should have their number retired it's him

Agreed. Well deserved, and before I finished reading the article, I was wondering if they retired any others.
I agree with Mr. Rooney, there are so many deserving Steelers, that we would run out of numbers, if we retired them all.
    Esp, from the 70`s!:herewego!:
I have noticed that some numbers rarely, if ever, get worn again... But they have never been "Officially" retired.
I`m curious, has anyone worn 58, since Lambert?
I seem to remember someone wearing 32 after Franco, but I don`t recall who.
I`m thinking it was a fairly run of the mill rb.. Maybe from the 80`s/90`s?(Maybe even a tight end?)
I`m pretty sure we`ve never had # 12 at qb, since, Terry...
(Hope to God it wasn`t you know who... I`ve wiped him so far from my mind, I forget his #...;-)).
As for recent departures, I don`t think anyone else deserves to wear #86, or #91...
Not that they need to be officially "retired", just shouldn`t be worn again, at least for a long, long, time!
Although, it would be fitting for Hines, as he chose to retire himself as a Steeler... Maybe at a ceremony in Canton, someday?
Good choice for the second ever jersey to be retired, Rooney`s!:applaud:
    GO STEELERS!:yeehaw:

I'm pretty much 100 percent positive no one has ever worn 58, 12, or 32 since since Lambert, Bradshaw, and Franco.

If it weren't for Joe Greene then the Steelers would have never been the Dynasty that they had become.

Great to see #75 get the recognition.

Not imeediately since it took decades but I'd like to see two more Steelers numbers retired. #58 and #86.

Then again we could probably start throwing numbers everywhere that should be considered for retirement.

I would start with those two others though.

Beautiful move... Only 30 something years to late! Or 20 something to be fair!

Actually if it wasn't for Noll they wouldn't have become the dynasty they became but Mean Joe definitely played a very big part in it.

Kinda caught me off guard that it happened at all. Steelers definitely breaking the tradition. For years they kept saying that Stautner would be the only one ever retired.

LC Greenewood not being in the HOF. Now that is definitely way way waaaaaay too late.

I'm glad I am old enough to have seen Greene and that defense play.

The same can be said of Mean Joe. Take him out of the equation and maybe the culture of losing never gets turned around.

Well, I said he played a very big part but if you want to single out the biggest reason for the Steelers becoming what they were, it's Noll. I can make an argument that they would have still gone on to win 4 Championships with that 74 draft, but with no Noll, you don't have any of it.

I love the fact he picked to have it retired against the Ratbirds. Pick your biggest rival and make it that much more difficult on them. Heinz is going to be bonkers that day! Can't wait!

Yeah, the stadium will be rocking. Wonder if they'll make a special renegade video with just Mean Joe hits.
