I was kind of surprised at the 3 year deal. younger and faster on defense on paper, but until these guys get on the field we are using older and slower.

troy and will allen do not add up to younger and faster. cam over ziggy is also not adding speed. heyward over keisel is probably a wash speed wise. the only real speed we have added is shazier. the front end and backend of the defense hasn't changed much at this point. how long will it take for them to recognize the difference?

Richardson, shamarko, golden, Mitchell of course, blake, arnfelt, Williams, tuitt, and we've not talked about the edges of the pass rush that may actually be slower than previous. JJ and worilds. right now we just have a lot of speed at backup positions. signing troy for 3 years will most likely hinder the influx of speed to the defense. not that it was a bad thing, just a surprise when there was talk of one year with a pay cut.

Troy might be a little long in the tooth, but he is by no means slow by any stretch of the imagination

slower than in the past. he and ike as far as reaction and catch up speed now than even 4 years ago. it happens. when they guess wrong the make up speed isn't there like before. troy still does amazing things, but father time and the beating his body has taken starts to add up. remember troy even played a lot as a rookie. that's a long time in a SS role. lot's of collisions. plus college.

IMO Troy's extension was a mistake. He was coming off his best season in years, and you never buy high. That's just dumb.

Yeah, if there's one safety in this league that doesn't deserve big money, it's Troy Polamalu.

And if there's one player the Steelers are overpaying, it's Troy Polamalu.

When we signed him to the extension he could have left and probably made up to 5 million more a year.

Don't forget Mitchell. He's a big upgrade in speed over Clark.

I disagree with this. we have seen how bad this defense is when he isn't out there. it wasn't great last year with him but we have ALL seen what its like without him. we have all been witness to his greatness. we even seen some of that last year. no way is he not worth every penny
